“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. Knowing Him | guest post
S~ But to this day the Lord has not given you a mind that understands or eyes that see or ears that hear. Yet the Lord says, “During the forty years that I led you through the wilderness, your clothes did not wear out, nor did the sandals on your feet. You ate no bread and drank no wine or other fermented drink. I did this so that you might know that I am the Lord your God.” Deuteronomy 29:4-6 (NIV)
O~ Moses is addressing the people, speaking God’s Word to them.
A~ So many things pop out at me this morning. First of all, the Lord gives me a mind that understands. The Lord gives me eyes that can truly see. The Lord gives me ears that hear. I can’t read books or listen to podcasts for understanding and wisdom, it’s from God!
The Lord also provides for His people! Clothes or shoes not wearing out for 40 years, ha! My son burns through tennis shoes in six months. But I believe that God supernaturally works and He did this for His people.
But the most important thing the Lord says is knowing Him. Knowing God, is above all.
P~ Abba, I know You! But I go through my day with getting things done, solving problems as they arise. I want to be close and pursue You in all moments! Teach me how to do that! And if my son’s shoes wouldn’t wear out, that would be awesome too. (I’m joking!) I love You!

S~ Love the Lord your God, listen to His voice, and hold fast to Him. For the Lord is your life and He will give you many years in the land He swore to give to your fathers. Deuteronomy 30:20 (NIV)
O~ Moses is giving his last words of direction to the Israelites before they enter the promised land. He knows that he will not be going with them and he needs to make sure they are ready to enter this covenant with God. Making a covenant is like making a binding promise, or contract. Moses knows the consequences of disobedience and is trying to make sure his people prosper. God has provided and promised to prosper them and Moses doesn’t want them to mess it up.
A~ I made a covenant with God when I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. My heart and mind and soul would love him and I would seek His will. Every day in each situation I face I must affirm and reinforce that commitment. Oftentimes, my choices do not reflect that I am earnestly seeking God. I do some pretty dumb things. I let my emotions get the best of me and walk paths that I know I shouldn’t. The really amazing thing about God is that He forgives me over and over and my mistakes never damage our relationship. When God looks at me, he sees me through Jesus shaped glasses. He knows me. He knows my heart. He chooses to see the purity of Jesus reflected on me. I definitely don’t deserve His grace, but He lavishes it upon me.
P~ Father, thank you for unearned grace. Thank you for loving me and seeing me as your sweet child and not as the wretched sinner that I can be. Please forgive me when I make mistakes and teach me through them. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
