“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. Click HERE to go directly to the daily reading if you wish.

The Place To Which God Carried You | Kelley Deases

S~ Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper. Jeremiah 29:7 (NIV)

O~ God gave these words to Jeremiah to speak to the people of Judah while they were in exile in Babylon at the Lord’s hand. God desires His people re-learn how to submit themselves to His will and authority. In this lesson, they are told to pray for the peace and prosperity of their conquerors. By doing so, perhaps they could influence this nation to serve the Lord. Either way, it is a wise prayer which would allow God’s people to enjoy their lives amidst a less than ideal scenario.

A~ I journaled not too long ago about my family’s move to Omaha when I was 10 years old, and what a difficult transition that was for me. Today, my mind turns to all the military friends I have been blessed to know over the years, since we live so close to an Air Force base. I personally know the pain and sadness of seeing dear friends pack up and move away. For them, I know it cannot be easy to set up household, forge new friendships, and invest in a new community, only to be uprooted and replanted elsewhere in a matter of months or years, at the pleasure of the U.S. government. But I have to imagine these words from the Lord for the people of Judah still ring true for His people today: go willingly, establish your home, pray for your new city, and so reflect God’s love in the world. Easier said than done, I have no doubt.

P~ Father, I pray today, specifically, for my military friends, those I have known who have moved away, those who are here now — for a season or for the duration — and even those I will come to know. I pray their hearts would be secure and at home with You so they can better weather the ever-changing scenery and different address on the door. Bless them as they serve this country, at great personal sacrifice to themselves and their families.

Our team would love the privilege of praying for you! Please share how we can lift you in prayer at prayer@DiscoverOneThing.com
