“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. Getting serious | guest post
S~ If you are really serious about wanting to return to the Lord, get rid of your foreign gods and your images of Ashtoreth. Determine to obey only the Lord; then He will rescue you from the Philistines. 1 Samuel 7:3 (NLT)
O~ This is my take on the verse: Daughter, if you are really serious about your relationship with Me, get rid of all your romance novels, especially the ones that are a little racy. Determine to obey only Me and then I will rescue You from this bondage to lust and fantasy thinking. Love, God.
A~ This verse speaks to my heart. When I started walking more and more with God, I wanted Him more and more in my life. He asked me to get rid of reading all types of romance novels.
Not that romance novels are bad! But I am a professional sinner, and I would take those romance novels and my head and heart would be filled with thoughts and actions that did not please the Lord.
P~ Thank you Lord for recognizing something that I thought was a hobby, but it was deceptively pulling me farther and farther away from You! Please continue to speak to me about anything that gets in the way of You and me! I’m serious about wanting to walk beside You! I LOVE YOU! In Jesus’ Name I pray! Amen!
For Those Who Cry During the Night | Joni Tyner
S~ He will rescue the poor when they cry to him. He will help the oppressed, who have no one to defend them. He feels pity for the weak and the needy, and He will rescue them. He will redeem them from the oppression and violence, for their lives are precious to Him. Psalm 72:12-14 (NLT)
O~ There are so many vulnerable innocent victims that are so precious to our Lord. The Bible is filled with scripture from the Old Testament, the Psalms, Proverbs, and New Testament that the oppressed matter to our Lord. He WILL redeem them. The least of these are so very precious to Him.
A~ We don’t need to look far when listening to the news to hear of the innocent being wronged. It breaks my heart that so many children in this world are orphans, so many that have no one to care for them. There are thousands of vulnerable women being sucked into the world of sex trafficking. I simply shutter at the thought of those being trapped in this horrible crime. There are innocent people in prisons; their “crime”? owning a Bible, proclaiming Jesus over government religion. It goes on and on. There are so many oppressed people. It makes me so sad and unfortunately I don’t think this side of heaven we are going to see everyone saved from the sorrow they live in. I don’t understand it. I just don’t. But, this scripture tells us there is hope for their future. They aren’t going to stay in their horrible circumstances, they are passionately loved. He holds each tear and intimately understands their pain. They are so very precious to Him.
P~ Lord, this evening I lift up a prayer for those in this world who have no one to pray for them. I know You know their name, You know each unthinkable act that has stolen their innocence, people that have been used and discarded. You know those who are persecuted for their faith. Jesus, I pray for healing! I pray for freedom for those unjustly held against their will. I pray for homes for orphaned children, Lord stir hearts in Your people who can do tangible acts to make a difference for just one person. Help us all to open our eyes and love like you have called us to love. I especially pray for each child, each woman, each person who is oppressed. Hold them sweetly, may You be their Sanctuary until their final rescue comes.
Words matter | guest post
S~ If you speak to people in words they don’t understand, how will they know what you are saying? You might as well be talking into empty space. 1 Corinthians 14:9 (NLT)
O~ How many sermons did I sit through as a child, teen, and young adult and walk away not knowing what was said? A lot! Not just a lot a lot, but A LOT!
I also remember taking Physics I in college taught by a Russian professor. He spoke physics with a Russian accent and I was a big empty space that he was speaking to. I was so frustrated with that class because I needed to know that information, but I just couldn’t understand how the professor was giving it to me.
People need (like NEED!) to hear about our Savior, but if my words don’t make sense to them……they won’t know what I’m talking about!
A~ I know that God can and does use people like me (mess ups, but especially with my words). Somehow, the Holy Spirit just makes conversations work out, probably because He has prepared each person’s heart to hear the truth being spoken! But I still desire my words (written and spoken) to be understandable and point towards Christ!
P~ Father, please make my words understandable, clear, and always, always point to Jesus! May all conversations I have increase my faith in You or increase someone else’s faith! Please don’t let my words fall into empty space. Help me communicate clearly to people. I trust that You can do this and will do this! I pray in Jesus’ Name! Amen!
