February 28, 2019 Leviticus 15,16; Matthew 28

“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. Click HERE to go directly to the daily reading if you wish.

Separate from Sin or Separate from You | Kim Chipman

S~ “‘You must keep the Israelites separate from things that make them unclean, so they will not die in their uncleanness for defiling my dwelling place, which is among them.’” Leviticus 15:31 (NIV)

O~ I can’t help but see the parallels here to the New Testament faith we ascribe to today. Sin = uncleanliness, uncleanliness leads to death (separation from You), Your dwelling place was among them and is within us now.

A~ When I read Leviticus, I see how Your character is unchanging. Throughout the Old Testament there are SO. MANY. RULES. which has me extra grateful for Jesus’ sacrifice and the freedom that comes through it. But You are holy. And uncleanliness or sin causes death or separation. And that has not changed. You do not want us to dabble in sin, you want us separate from these things.

P~ Father, help me to take sin seriously. I don’t want to be separated from You. I love You!

The Great Commission | Kimi Miller

S~ Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of age. Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV)

O~ These are the final words of Jesus recorded in the book of Matthew. Go and make disciples – teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.

A~ Everything You have commanded has to do with the condition of my heart. All of it. How can I make disciples, if I have not examined my own heart? How can I help teach others, when I’m still learning things myself?

By being honest about where I am.

The longer I walk with You, the more I’m okay with not having it all figured out. It’s funny, there’s actually a peace that comes with that surrender – admitting and accepting, I’m never going to fully grasp all You are showing me – not on this side of heaven anyway. But that doesn’t mean I can’t make disciples. It doesn’t excuse me from the very thing You called me – all of us – to do.

Make disciples and teach them everything I have commanded you. Even sharing my SOAP notes is helping to make disciples because I am showing others what You are teaching me through Your Word.

P~ Lord, sometimes I think making disciples requires a strict lesson plan, but really, it’s just being real about who I am in You. It’s sharing my story – my journey with You, and just being honest. Lord, I certainly don’t have it all figured out, but I am starting to see You more clearly – and that is really all I desire. A clearer picture of You makes it easier to tell others about You. Thanks for never giving up on me. I love You, Jesus. Help me fulfill Your commission as You intended me to. Give me wisdom and courage, but most important, give me Your love for people.
