May 17, 2018 1 Samuel 12; 1 Chronicles 1; 1 Corinthians 15:35-58

“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. Click HERE to go directly to the daily reading if you wish.

Farewell | John Deases

S~ But be sure to have respect for the Lord.  Serve him faithfully.  Do it with all your heart.  Think about the great things he has done for you.  But don’t be stubborn.  Don’t continue to do what is evil.  If you do, both you and your king will be destroyed.  I Samuel 12:24-25 (NIV)

O~ On the heels of Saul becoming king, Samuel the prophet gives one final speech to people of Israel.   Samuel’s farewell speech is chock-full of directives and warnings, one for the ages.

A~ Words to live by.  I think this excerpt encapsulates the essence of what a person should strive for if they want to honor God.   I know my life is moving in the right direction when I incorporate the words of Samuel.  And the converse is true, my life is moving in the wrong direction when I choose to violate the words in this Scripture.  Samuel’s speech was truly inspired.   I would do well to purpose my life to follow the decrees of God.

P~ After hearing the final words of Samuel, my prayer is that I would live accordingly.  May the words of Samuel be sealed within my spirit.

Never Useless | Kim Chipman

S~ So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless. 1 Corinthians 15:58 (NLT)

O/A~ Last weekend the pastor at our church preached about margin. Intentionally choosing what we want in our lives AND intentionally leaving margin so we aren’t frantic all the time. I need to hear this message just about every day. I tend to be a very high capacity, get a lot done sort of person. Sometimes this is good. Sometimes this is NOT. What is really important to me is relationships, and no one wants to feel rushed through a conversation or feel like you are always too busy for them. I want to love others well by being emotionally available. But there’s still all this stuff that needs to get done!

Needs to?

I need to reassess some of that. Yes, there are things that need to be done. Grocery shopping, cooking, laundry, cleaning, taxi-ing 4 kids, working…on and on the list goes.

But.

Am I working enthusiastically FOR YOU? Or for me? Nothing I do for You is wasted – but that doesn’t mean You assigned me all the responsibilities that I’ve assigned myself.

P~ Lord, help me to prioritize and intentionally spend my time WELL and FOR YOU. Help me to quiet my heart and get my next assignment. I love You.

Our team would love the privilege of praying for you! Please share how we can lift you in prayer at prayer@DiscoverOneThing.com
