Guard My Heart, Fill My Cup | Kim Chipman

S~ Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.” 1 Corinthians 15:33 (NIV)

O~ This verse comes right after discussion about the resurrection being true. The resurrection of Jesus is a critical belief in our faith. The very next thing Paul says is “Bad company corrupts good character.”

A~ This is a verse I’m very familiar with and have journaled on several times I’m sure. This is the first time that I’ve noticed it seems to be a warning about keeping company with unbelievers, specifically. I use it often to encourage my children to choose friends well, but I see it more deeply this time. It’s not just about staying away from drug dealers and partying, it’s choosing your inner circle to be believers. If the aren’t it can impact YOUR faith.

Who I choose to be with and spend time with can grow or squelch MY faith. Nay saying and negativity can rub off after awhile. I know it’s important to spend time with unbelievers to share Jesus, but I really do need to guard my heart. I need to be sure I’m filling it up as much as I’m allowing draining relationships. I cannot pour out of an empty cup.

P~ Lord, help me to balance my relationships well. Help me to focus my heart and mind on You and stay focused and filled with things from above. Help me to be strong, to be a light for You, and to keep my heart wholly devoted to You and You alone. I love You!
