“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. Mighty Warrior | Kimi Miller
S~ When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.” Judges 6:12 (NIV)
O~ Gideon, the least of his family and from the weakest clan in Manasseh, is “hiding” in the winepress threshing wheat. Alone with his thoughts, he must have been wondering, “Where is God?” Unaware of who he himself was and how God would use him for His glory. Unaware of how God was about to change his life. Unaware of how important his thoughts and beliefs were in that moment, and in every moment thereafter.
A~ You, God, always see things exactly how they are – You see the completed work. We often only see our present circumstances. You address us as who we are – as You see us, and as You created us to be.
When will I listen to what You say? When will I believe (completely, beyond the shadow of a doubt) that I am who You say I am? Why is it so hard for me to believe the good things You say about me, over the harsh, hurtful and mean things the enemy says about me?
I have a choice. I can choose which one I want to listen to, and which one I believe. Which one will I listen to? If I play it out in my mind the choice is obvious:
Listen to Your voice = find love, hope, joy, and life
Listen to satan’s voice = find despair, hopelessness, depression, and death
Why would I choose to believe the negative? I guess because I know myself. I know when I’ve been ugly in my thoughts, words, and actions. I know what I deserve.
You do, too. That’s why You took my place. You never said I didn’t deserve the punishment for my sins…You took my place instead.
You wanted me to live my life to the fullest – to experience every moment, with all the emotions and life that come with being alive. Impossible to do with death hanging over me. So You stepped in. You took my punishment upon Yourself, so I could live. You took what I deserved, and looked upon me and said, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior. Go. Fight. Live.”
P~ Jesus, forgive me for not fully grasping – in each moment of my life – how much it cost You for me to live. Thank You for Your ultimate sacrifice. Thank You for giving Yourself to death so I might live. Help me to live fully alive, for Your namesake and Your glory. I love You, Jesus.
Why We Post | Kelley Deases
S~ I have written you quite boldly on some points … because of the grace God gave me … so that the Gentiles might become an offering acceptable to God, sanctified by the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:15-16 NIV (excerpted)
O~ This is the message of the Gospel: we have received the great Good News and it is up to us to accept it, grow in it and pass it on to others.
A~ The passage could also be describing what we are doing through the Discover One Thing ministry. We write (or record) what God has given us as we sit at His feet. We do so by His grace and share so that others might be encouraged to seek Him for themselves. Though Paul’s words are far more eloquent, the fact that they resonate so clearly must mean we are on the right track as we share our hearts through this blog.
P~ Father, As You used Paul’s words to encourage and teach and comfort and correct and spread Your message, use our words and voices to share Your message, and to help people to want to discover Your messages for themselves, in our generation.
Our team would love the privilege of praying for you! Please share how we can lift you in prayer at prayer@DiscoverOneThing.com
