“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. Grace is Not Earned | Kim Chipman

S~ For if it is the adherents of the law who are to be the heirs, faith is null and the promise is void. Romans 4:14 (ESV)

O~ Gal 3:11 Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for “The righteous shall live by faith.”

Gal 3:18 For if the inheritance comes by the law, it no longer comes by promise; but God gave it to Abraham by a promise.

Eph 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

O~ It is really hard for me to understand grace in the day to day of life. I can grasp it a bit when I really step back and ponder it, but then I re-enter life and I just forget. As a recovering do-aholic human I’m not wired to live in that grace place.

I’ve been reading the book Present Over Perfect by Shauna Niequist. It has been very encouraging to hear the journey of a fellow recovering do-aholic. Her message very much echoes these verses – we don’t have to earn it or perform to get it. By it’s very definition neither grace nor faith need to be – or even can be – earned.

P~ Lord, thank You for the precious gift of grace. Help me to remember I don’t need to earn Your affection, love, grace, or approval. My good deeds can be done from a heart of thanksgiving and deep gratitude and love. I love You!
