April 5, 2019 Deuteronomy 21,22; Romans 3:1-20

“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. Click HERE to go directly to the daily reading if you wish.

Hope for a Hurtful Past | Chelsea Horne

S~ He must acknowledge the son of his unloved wife as the firstborn by giving him a double share of all he has. That son is the first sign of his father’s strength. The right of the first born belongs to him. Deuteronomy 21:17 (NIV)

Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s Sight by the works of the law, rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin. Romans 3:20 (NIV)

O~ We cannot undo the past, but we must acknowledge it. Even if our past is full of shame and guilt, we must acknowledge it as ours and take ownership of it. Perhaps God will use us for His Glory in this way! It can be a testament to His Grace and Faithfulness in our lives, not only now, but then as well. Because He saw us walk through our past, whether it was with or without Him (Jesus), and He still called us Loved. He is not blind to our past, but He doesn’t hold it against us either. We are a new creation in Him, and we are His beloved children, now and forever.

A~ I have been avoiding a certain piece of my past, well,  a certain someone, for a long time. Skirting around them as best I can for fear’s sake. I cannot change my past with them, but I can pray about and ask God to give me a hopeful and happy present with them. The pain from my past does not have to stop me from loving them as Jesus does, I just need to ask Him to teach me to love them unconditionally, as He does.

P~ Lord Jesus, You and I both know the fear associated with cultivating a relationship with this person. I have been told “I love you” with one hand, and slapped with the other more times than I can count. How do I handle this, Lord? What do I do? How can I love this person despite this fact? How do You love me, despite when I do this to You? Please give me guidance, wisdom, and love in this. Please help me to have Your unconditional Love for this person. Help me to forgive them for our past, and trust You with our future, every day. Also, please protect us as we both walk closer to You.

In Your Name I pray,

Amen
