April 4, 2019 Deuteronomy 19,20; Romans 2:17-29

“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. Click HERE to go directly to the daily reading if you wish.

Me first! | guest post

S~ …you, then, who teaches others, do you not teach yourself?  You who preach against stealing, do you steal?  ~ Romans 2:21 (NIV)

O~ Paul is making a great point here about teachers of the law: some were teaching, but not following the same teaching!

A~ This is so me!  I wake up, cover my family in prayer and then bite their head off if they ask me to grab them a towel after the shower has started.  Or if I lose my patience with a co-worker over something silly that I do all the time.

I need to be preaching the gospel to my soul every moment.  When I wake up: For God so loved the world, He gave His only Son…I am loved, treasured so much that GOD! would give His Son up for me.  ME!  That His Son would lay down His life for mine so I could spend eternity with them.  M.i.n.d.b.l.o.w.n.

This love that is so lavish and never ending is heaped all on me.  He will never leave me or forsake me.  And as I take His abundant love, He gives me so much more than I need, I will have enough to live and love like Jesus to the other people in my life.

P~ Abba, thank You!  Let me hear You in the morning and keep preaching to my soul about Your love and Your goodness and Your mercy and never ending grace!

Spirit Led Devotion | Joni Tyner

S~ For you are not a true Jew just because you were born of Jewish parents or because you have  gone through the ceremony of circumcision. No, a true Jew is one whose heart is right with God. And true circumcision is not merely obeying the letter of the law; rather, it is a change of heart produced by God’s Spirit.  Romans 2: 28-29 (NLT)

O~ Paul is reminding the new believers that authentic  faith is not the result of a person’s family or because they have done religious activities.  God desires his children to have heartfelt devotion that will bring a “want to” lifestyle of  obedience.

A/P~ Dear Lord, I desire to please You and be obedient to You.  I’m so sorry that I frequently slip into religious activity and start to think I’m righteous because of my works.  Even worse, I have a tendency to compare my behavior to other Christians. The sin fans the flame of my pride and leaves others feeling judged.   Please forgive me for wasting time worrying about what other people are or aren’t doing!  I pray Your Holy Spirit infuses me to have an never ending desire to know You better and love You (and others) more like Jesus.

Our team would love the privilege of praying for you! Please share how we can lift you in prayer at prayer@DiscoverOneThing.com
