“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. How Wise? | Kelley Deases

S~ Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools.  Romans 1:22 (NIV)

O~ Sometimes the most intelligent people can completely miss the wisdom of God. For example, this is a quote from Stephen Hawking, an esteemed professor and one of the most famous physicists of recent times: “When people ask me if a god created the universe, I tell them that the question itself makes no sense. Time didn’t exist before the big bang, so there is no time for god to make the universe in. It’s like asking directions to the edge of the earth; The Earth is a sphere; it doesn’t have an edge; so looking for it is a futile exercise. We are each free to believe what we want, and it’s my view that the simplest explanation is there is no god. No one created our universe, and no one directs our fate. This leads me to a profound realization; There is probably no heaven, and no afterlife either. We have this one life to appreciate the grand design of the universe, and for that I am extremely grateful.” For all his capacity to study and learn and innovate and discover, Hawking, sadly, missed the main thing. God created Stephen and longed to be recognized in the beautiful intricacies of the universe. But he failed to see what was right in front of him, for all his genius and renown.

A~ I have someone in my life who is, likewise, incredibly intelligent, yet has turned his back on the faith on his youth and raised a child away from any church. His daughter is also very smart, in the academic sense, but struggles to negotiate the stressors of the world. It is really no wonder, considering she does not believe she is unconditionally loved, that her life has a purpose and a plan, and in the absence of the encouragement and community of a church family.

P~ Father, I pray for this family right now. Even if they have foolishly failed to seek You and find You in the past, would You turn their hearts toward the simple truth of Your everlasting love.

Our team would love the privilege of praying for you! Please share how we can lift you in prayer at prayer@DiscoverOneThing.com
