“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. An Invitation | Chelsea Horne
S~ Do not show partiality in judging; hear both small and great alike. Do not be afraid of anyone, for judgement belongs to God. Bring me any case too hard for you, and I will hear it. Deuteronomy 1:17 (NIV)
O~ Moses is talking to the Israelites about their journey so far, and is open and honest with them about his humanity. He knows that he cannot help everyone all at once, so he asks them to choose “wise, understanding, and respected men” (Deut. 1:13) from among the tribes to better help them individually.
A~ This verse, and Psalm 94:19, really hit home for me today. Working two jobs, keeping up with family, maintaining friendships (or trying to), and currently dealing with pain from my past has me stretched very thin. I have found myself making excuses not to sit with Jesus and quietly contemplate and pray about all of this with Him. There is always something that needs to be done, someone that I need to call or text, etc. Rather than walking by faith in God, I feel like I’m being pushed through my days with barely enough time to take the next step.
But even through all of this, He has still been inviting me to sit with Him, in His subtle and loving ways. I truly LOVE how personal Jesus is with us! He knows exactly how we will hear Him best, and He quietly speaks to us in those ways. He has been inviting me to rest in Him amidst all of the chaos, and I think that I will accept His invitation today.
“When anxiety was great within me, Your consolation brought me joy.”
— Psalm 94:19 (NIV)
P~ Lord Jesus, Today, I surrender my all to You. We both know that I’m not strong enough to handle this, but I know and will rest in the Truth that You are. Please take my anxiety from me, Lord, and replace it with Your Peace and Love in my heart.
In Your Name I pray,
Amen
How to Avoid U-turns back to the Wilderness | Joni Tyner
S~ I will give the land to your little ones- your innocent children. You were afraid they would be captured, but they will be the ones who occupy it. As for you, turn around now and go on back through the wilderness toward the Red Sea. Deuteronomy 1:39-40 (NLT)
O~ Moses is retelling the story of the Israelites journey to the Promised Land. God informs Moses that the children will be the ones that receive the blessing, but he will miss out on the Promised Land AND he needs to turn around and go back into the wilderness.
A~ The “turn around and on go back through the wilderness” is what jumped out at me this morning. I knew Moses didn’t go to the Promised Land but I didn’t realize that God had commanded him to go back into the wilderness. He missed out on God’s best and, I’m assuming, continued to experience all the negative circumstances that came with wilderness living because of fear and lack of obedience. WOW.
As I read this scripture this morning, I’m trying to determine what areas in my life might be similar to Moses and be causing me to stay in wilderness living. It appears to me that the Israelites repeatedly returned to the patterns of worry, lack of obedience, and wanting to go back to their old life. (Egypt)
Ouch!!!! I feel like this me.
P~ Dear Lord, I want Your Word to transform my heart, I desire my lifestyle to reflect You. It is pointless if I read it and agree with it and then do NOTHING!!!! Please show me each day what obedience looks like. I ask that Your Holy Spirit give me discernment to identify what behavior in my life is the result of fear and that I would trust You to make real steps to replace it with choices that require trusting You. Dear Lord, thank you for this insight this morning, once again, I am coming away with life giving wisdom by spending time in Your Word.
