I Need Your Word | Kim Chipman

S~ The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. Psalm 19:7 (NIV)

O~ I really love this last portion of Psalm 19 when David meditates on how awesome Your Word is. your Word is perfect, refreshing, trustworthy, right, brings joy, is radiant, gives light, firm, righteous, precious, sweet, rewarding, and discerning.

A~ I need all of that. I am the simpleton who needs wisdom. v12 says: “But who can discern their own errors?” Your Word and Your Spirit can warn and guide and impart wisdom and discernment. I need, need, need these things.

I enjoy listening to sermons from other churches especially while I drive. This one struck me this week and stoked my fire of love for Your Word.

P~ This Psalm concludes: May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer. I love You!

Pleasing You | guest post

S~ May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer. Psalm 19:14 (NIV)

O~ The end of David’s song: may my words and thoughts and ramblings inside of my head be please to You, the One who has saved me and is King of my life.

A~ I feel like I’m at a crossroads with this really challenging relationship.  It’s funny, God keeps giving me moments at this crossroads.  Choose Him and His ways and then this prayer of my words and thoughts in my heart be pleasing in His sight.

Or choose my natural reactions.  Frustration, distance between me and this person, short responses back to this person.  And yes, speaking about this situation to another to let out my frustration.

I can’t fake the words of my mouth and meditation of my heart. Jesus is too smart and knows me too well!  Letting go of this frustration and denying myself the right to be right, and carrying my cross are my choices that honor the Lord in this situation and relationship.

This is a paraphrase from an article by John Piper about cross carrying:  it means to treasure Jesus more than we treasure human approval, honor, comfort, and life.  Our suffering is not a tribute to Jesus unless we endure it because we cherish Jesus.  Taking up our cross means Jesus has become more precious to us than approval, honor, comfort, and life.

P~ Abba, I’m stuck in my selfishness and comfort.  One day regarding this relationship I can have You or my self-righteousness.  Ugh!  I want You!  I want my words and my heart to be pleasing in Your sight!  FOR REAL!  At these crossroads in this relationship, let me cherish Jesus more than comfort.  I pray this in Jesus Name!

Our team would love the privilege of praying for you! Please share how we can lift you in prayer at prayer@DiscoverOneThing.com
