God lavishes unfailing love for a thousand generations! | Joni Tyner

S~ But I lavish unfailing love for a thousand generations on those who love me and obey my commands. Exodus 20:6 (NLT)

O~ Unfailing love. God will not fail those who love and obey His commands.  “He has never failed and He won’t start now.”—this is a lyric from Oceans by Hillsong. That is so comforting.  I think back to God’s faithfulness again, again, again and AGAIN in the Bible to His people. They completely messed up time and time again. Their hearts were critical and whiny, so like people today. They wanted the easy life!!  And when God provided for their needs, (Like the water, the mana) they were momentarily thankful but quickly forgot and started complaining again. “God has forgotten us”.  They didn’t place priority on obeying His commandments and began to sin and indulge their own selfish desires.  This is so like the people of modern day!!  When God blesses someone with good things, they are temporarily thankful but so quickly forget what God did for them when boredom or difficult times sets in.  God wants to bless his people and their children for a thousand generations.  He gets pleasure from blessing his people.

A~ As God’s children, we need to stay in the Word to be reminded of His unfailing love throughout the generations.  The Old and New Testament is full of examples of people that didn’t deserve His forgiveness and mercy yet received it.   We need to continue to persevere with our own children and grandchildren to learn to love our Creator, our King. This begins at a young age through everyday conversations, living a life of integrity, putting Jesus into our everyday life. It is the fabric of our family. Who we are.  Yes, our children have free will and may struggle with different sin that we do, but we build a strong foundation for them through planting and watering the seeds of faith.  1 Corinthians 3:6 “I planted the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it, but it is God who made it grow.“  It is a journey of faith with our children and God has a unique purpose and story for each of them. He will use their struggles and setbacks to encourage and bring others to the Lord. He will lavish unfailing love for a thousand generations.

P~ Jesus, thank you, thank you!!! For your unfailing love to me and the generations that are to come.  I pray for guidance as we seek to obey you and instruct our children to love and obey you.

No Other | Kim Chipman

S~ You must not have any other god but me. You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens of on the earth or in the sea. Exodus 20:3-4 (NLT)

O~ God + Moses + Mt Sinai + all the people…10 commandments…and this is the first…NO. Other. gods.

A~ What are idols in my life? What comes before You? I know You have given me tasks and responsibilities in this life, things to do…but my heart and thoughts can be continuously fixed on You and Your ways or on me and my desires. Obviously, I can’t sit in Your Word all day, every day – so show me – what are idols for me? What pulls me away from You? What do I choose above You? You “will not tolerate affection for any other gods”. Is it my kids? My stuff? Facebook? ANY book/teacher? Control? MYSELFMy comfort? My feelings/desires?

P~ Lord, show me. As I walk through my daily please show me where my heart is getting off track and needs to turn fully to You. Help me see it. Show me how to change it. I love you.
