February 7, 2019 Exodus 17,18; Matthew 7

“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. Click HERE to go directly to the daily reading if you wish.

S~ Aaron and Hur held his hands up – one on one side, one on the other – so that his hands remained steady until sunset. Exodus 17:26b (NIV)

O~ As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning (v. 11). So, Aaron and Hur helped Moses hold up his hands.

A~ This morning, I’m reminded of the amazing women God brought to me in my own time of need. Women who held up my arms when I was too tired, too worn out, too weary to keep doing it on my own.

I wonder why I often feel the need to do things on my own – as if I’m the only one who can do it? Certainly it’s because of my pride. But as I get older, I’m beginning to see more and more how much more beautiful things are when they are accomplished together.

When I work with another person, the ideas are often better, and the extra set of hands make the work lighter. Sure there is conflict at times, but in the end, you can rejoice together at what you’ve overcome – what you’ve accomplished. What fun is that, if you’ve no one else to share it with?

Working together brings hope. It brings an opportunity to grow in all areas of our life – and in our love for one another, and the uniqueness of each person. It gives us an opportunity to catch a glimpse of what God sees – something beyond ourselves.

P~ God, thank You for the amazing women in my life. Women who have stood by me, and helped raise my arms when I could not. Bless them today, Lord, as well as all the days of their lives. Help us to be encouragers to one another. Break down walls of comparison and judgement, and open our eyes to the beautiful design in each being You created, and may we rejoice in Your creativity and handiwork – giving You all the glory. We love You, God.
