“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. Could Not Speak a Kind Word | Chelsea Horne

S~ When his brothers saw that their father loved him more than any of them, they hated him and could not speak a kind word to him. Genesis 37:4 (NIV)

O~ This verse is after the writer of Genesis has shared with us that Joseph’s father has given him an “ornate robe” (Gen. 37:3). Before this, however, Joseph had “brought their father a bad report about them.” (Gen. 37:2). So, his brothers were frustrated from Joseph’s report and jealous because their father had given him an ornate robe. Frustration and jealousy bore their hatred to where they “could not speak a kind word to him.” (Gen. 37:4).

Very interesting wording – could not. Not would not, or even an aversion to, but could not.

A~ Where have I been allowing frustration, jealousy, or even hatred to stop me from seeing the good in a certain someone? I have let frustration and hurt cloud my eyes and heart to the good things in them, to how God sees and loves them. I want to understand why they did what they did, but I don’t want the conversation to be governed by hatred or fear. The only way that we will both heal is by God’s Loving Hand healing our hearts. Also, allowing Him to direct the conversation, if it’s in His Will for us to have it.

P~ Father, I feel a battle raging within my heart, because I want to know and understand but I don’t want the answers to drive us further apart. I want to heal from this, Lord. I don’t want what happened to hold me back from loving them anymore, from seeing the good in them. Please remove the veil of hurt and resulting hatred from my eyes and my heart and help me to see them as You do. Even if I never know or understand why they did what they did. Please heal our hearts with Your Love, Grace, and Compassion, Father. Please help me to forgive them and teach me to love them again, but with You as my guide.

In Jesus’ Name I pray,
