January 16, 2019 Genesis 28,29; John 9:13-41

“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. Click HERE to go directly to the daily reading if you wish.

A Community of Peoples | Kim Chipman

S~ May Almighty God bless you and make you fruitful and increase your numbers until you become a community of peoples Genesis 28:3 (NIV)

O~ Isaac is giving Jacob a blessing. Jacob is fleeing because his brother Esau wanted to kill him (for stealing his birthright). His father Isaac is encouraging him to go live elsewhere and grow his family and community.

A~ While I know this isn’t the intent of this verse, it spoke clearly to my heart about the purpose of the local church. And about MY purpose. To create community.

Why have church if we don’t create community? I really see this as one of the primary functions of the local church. Worship, teaching, and community. You can accomplish worship and teaching online, but not relationship. You need to spend time with people to have relationship, to have true community.

Ecc 4:9-10 Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.

Heb 10:25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.

I believe You want us to be fruitful and increase in numbers as a community of peoples.

P~ Lord, I pray You would help me to be fruitful and increase my local church body in numbers. Knit us together tightly in community. I pray Your presence would be evident and contagious as we seek hard after You. I love You!

Grays | guest post

S~ Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained by a righteous life. Proverbs 16:31 (NIV)

O~ Daily wisdom for my soul.

A~ What sweet words for my soul today.  I feel like God is giving me a hug.  I’m a month out from a pretty big birthday and for two weeks I was freaking out about all my new gray hairs.

Coloring them didn’t work, they were back in a week.  And my energy/emotional component of my DNA cannot keep up with consistent coloring.  Every time I look in the mirror, I have to face my grays.

Maybe I’ve been approaching this milestone birthday from a world view?  Maybe this age thing is a gift?  The bible says that my grays are a crown of splendor, attained by a righteous life – so yes, my grays are a gift!  And Lord thinks I’m beautiful with them.

P~ Abba, I’m sorry for those two weeks of fretting, what a waste!  Please let me spend no more minutes about them again!  I love You!

Our team would love the privilege of praying for you! Please share how we can lift you in prayer at prayer@DiscoverOneThing.com
