“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. A New Season | Joni Tyner
S~ Abraham married another wife, whose name was Keturah. She gave birth to 6 sons. (my short cut- their names are in the scripture.) Genesis 25:1-2 (NIV)
O~ Abraham and Sarah didn’t have Isaac until they were in their 90’s and in Genesis 23: 1 it tells us that Sarah died at age 127. So, I’m guessing that Abraham was with Keturah for at least 30-40 years, enough time to have another complete ( large) family. In verse 5 it says he gave everything he owned to Isaac but gave gifts to each of his sons from concubines.
A~ I realize this is sort of an odd verse to choose, but I had never realized that Abraham got remarried after Sarah. I would assume that he was a good husband and father to this family since the Bible tells us he was a righteous man. I’m guessing he continued his faith journey with God and continued to influence those around him.
Today is my birthday and as I’m getting older, I often ponder about what my purpose is. I’m realizing that my life has different seasons, and that is normal and good. For about 25 years, I poured into my kids and focused on all the things it takes to care for a family. It was an important and BIG season in my life. This scripture is reminding me that God isn’t finished using me yet!!! I want to live an extraordinary life with Jesus and that may very well include leaving my comfort zone and doing new and different things for His Kingdom.
P~ Dear Lord, please infuse my heart with clarity about what my assignments are for today. I ask that You would help me do them with excellence, that I would be a reflection of You. I also ask for courage to take bold steps when You lead me and contentment to stay put when my assignments are already in front of me. Thank you for choosing me to be Your child.
