“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. Click HERE to go directly to the daily reading if you wish.

Love People more than Rules | Joni Tyner

S~ So the Jewish leader objected. They said to the man who was cured, “You can’t work on the Sabbath.!  The law doesn’t allow you to carry that sleeping mat.”  John 5: 10 (NLT)

O~ Jesus has just healed a man who couldn’t walk for 38 years. The Pharisees are right there pointing fingers about breaking a rule.  My Bible notes say this wasn’t even a real law, but they were adding to the scripture for their own argument.

A~ This is one of those scriptures that makes me scream at my Bible, “you’ve got to be kidding me!!!”  I just can not understand how hard the Pharisees hearts were to worry more about carrying a mat than the miracle of walking after 38 years of being crippled.

Jesus most basic message was to love God and love other people. Yes, we should strive to live a more holy life and this might include saying “no” to some things.  But, I think we have to first open our eyes to some of the miracles God is doing all around us and celebrate the small wins.  I believe God will take care of growing their hearts and shaping their behavior if we are faithful to first love them.

P~ Dear Lord, please help me to examine my heart and quickly see my own sin when I’m acting like these Pharisees.  I pray that the work you are doing in people I come in contact with is never damaged by my attitudes of what right and wrong are.  Thank you for this reminder!.
