Hard work, life change not promised | guest post

S~ I sent you to reap what you have not worked for.  Others have done the hard, and you have reaped the benefits of their labor. John 4:38 (NIV)

O~ Jesus is explaining about a spiritual harvest.  People are ready.  Some of the workers plant seeds in the people’s hearts, some get to be a part of harvesting souls.  Some people water the garden of other’s hearts, some pull weeds.  Being a part of God’s family makes us some part of this harvest, sometimes it’s hard work with no observation of change in people.

A~ Sometimes it’s just hard to be the seed planters and never see your plant pop up and grow.  Maybe super frustrating is a better word describe those feelings.  I was speaking with a friend who is a youth pastor and he hasn’t seen much growth from his labor of loving and living like Jesus to the next generation.  He is frustrated.

My brain is filling up with promises of Scripture for him, including this one.  My friend is planting seeds, or watering them.  His work is not in vain!  He has shared the gospel over and over, loved his students well, and been a source of truth to those students.  Just because he doesn’t see life change doesn’t mean he isn’t impacting those students’ eternity.  So what’s he to do?

Galatians 6:9 says, Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Thank you Lord for this today!

I was thinking that this verse was for my friend, but I think it’s more for me today.  I’m the spiritual leader in my home and our current situation is that I’m feeling like I’m the one trying to pursue Jesus.  I’ve grown weary, I’ve grown tired.  I see no change in my spouse or kids and I want to throw in the towel.

God’s word is pretty clear about throwing in the towel.  DO NOT GIVE UP.

P~ Abba, hear the prayers of my heart for my family.  Let me not grow weary of this work towards them!  I love You!
