January 3, 2019 Genesis 5,6; John 2

“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. Click HERE to go directly to the daily reading if you wish.

Deep Fellowship is My Desire | Kimi Miller

S~ So Noah did everything exactly as God had commanded him. Genesis 6:22 (NLT)

O~ God told Noah to build an ark – something no one had ever seen, and certainly not one of that magnitude! Noah didn’t know what he was doing, but he followed God’s instructions and did it exactly as God had commanded him.

A~ How did Noah do it? He did it by walking in close fellowship with You (v.9). I want to be obedient like Noah. I want to do everything as You command me to, but I will only be able to do so by walking in close fellowship with You.

My word for 2019 is “deep.” I have spent many years pursuing breadth over depth. No anymore. This year I want to start over by growing deep roots where I’m planted – right where You’ve planted me. I want to have deep roots in You, my foundation. I want to have deep relationships with loved ones. These desires mean that I have to make some changes, and become more disciplined. I have to choose others over myself – starting with You. This time with You, it has to be my priority. Because time is limited, I have to be wise in how I spend it – and with whom. The only way I will know is to ask You.

P~ Jesus, I need Your help. As I walk with You into this new year, show me how to go deep. Help me to be wise and obedient to Your commands, even if I’ve never seen it done before, help me to trust You in all things. Thank You for this incredible gift of life, and awakening me to see it and embrace it. I love You.

Simple, Not Easy | Kim Chipman

S~ Noah did everything just as God commanded him. Genesis 6:22 (NIV)

O~ Good ol’ Noah. God is grieved over the sin of mankind and ready to destroy all of creation “but Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord” (v8). Noah whole heartedly loved and obeyed God, even when no one else did.

A~ Noah isn’t perfect, but he’s a great example. This is one verse I aspire to emulate – Noah did everything just as God commanded him. Sounds so simple…

But I know from experience IT. IS. NOT.

Everyone around Noah was doing life their own way, doing whatever pleased them. Even in the midst of that Noah remained faithful. This is not unlike living now. Not everyone around me is focused on serving You.

P~ Lord, help me to live more like Noah in his steadfast obedience in the midst of rebellion all around him. Help me to do everything just as You command me, no matter what everyone around me is doing. Help me to honor You and You alone, my Audience of One. I love You!
