“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. Setting my heart to honor You | guest post
S~ If you do not listen, and if you do not set your heart to honor My Name,” says the Lord Almighty, “I will send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings. Yes, I have already cursed them, because you have not set your heart to honor Me.” Malachi 2:2 (NIV)
O~ Malachi is warning the people and priests. Worship and sacrifice were not being done the way that God had set. People were going through the motions, focused on their gain vs. a heart toward God.
A~ In January of 2017 I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. That diagnosis has significantly changed my life the last two years. My body has healed much, I still have a long way to go, but I am so much better now.
But, am I really better? When I was so sick and didn’t even know what was happening to me, my heart was firmly set on the Lord. I was reading through journals during my ‘sick’ time and my heart, mind, soul and strength depended on Jesus and my time with Him. I really couldn’t have gotten through those days without Him!
Since I have a name for my disease and some science behind it; it seems my dependence on Jesus has decreased. As I start to feel better, I don’t need to rely on Jesus as much to make it through the day.
Malachi warns: if you do not set your heart to honor the Lord, blessings will be cursed. My health and body are a blessing! Have I decided/chosen/set my mind and heart to honor the Lord with my health? I have more questions for my Father than answers, but I can be more intentional about this in 2019!
P~ Abba, wisdom is from You! Teach me to be wise with my health, but more importantly, in setting my heart to honor You with my health! I love You!
Examination Time | guest post
S~ Here is another thing you do. You cover the Lord’s altar with tears, weeping and groaning because he pays no attention to your offerings and doesn’t accept them with pleasure. You cry out, “Why doesn’t the Lord accept my worship?” I’ll tell you why! Because the Lord witnessed the vows you and your wife made when you were young. But you have been unfaithful to her, though she remained your faithful partner, the wife of your marriage vows. Malachi 2:13-14 (NLT)
O~ The prophet Malachi is bringing a message from the Lord to the Israelites.
A~ This one hit me like a ton of bricks. Have you ever felt distant from God? Like your prayers weren’t being heard or your requests were being ignored? Sometimes we think God is being cruel and distant on his own accord when maybe with a little self-examination, we might find that the distance was made by our own hands. Sin separates us from God. But thankfully he is unending in his grace and desires closeness with us; He doesn’t reject us but we push him away. Repentance and faithfulness to the things that God has blessed us with and called us to is the work that God asks of us in a relationship with him. This is how our lives become forms of worship pleasing to him.
P~ Lord, you have given me so much and have asked me to be faithful to those things. May you guard my heart from the temptation to give those blessings less of myself. May I pursue every good and perfect gift given to me, with the love and faith and honor that you ask of me. And when I feel the temptation arise to do any less help me to pray: Psalm 139:23-24- Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.
