“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. Click HERE to go directly to the daily reading if you wish.

Power of Words | Marisa Hartman

S~ Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry. Luke 4:1-2 (NIV)

O~ For forty days, Jesus was tested by the devil. In all of his temptations and clever schemes, the only thing Jesus spoke was scripture. As hard as the devil tried to tempt the son of God, he could not. Jesus resisted the devil with the power of God’s own words.

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7 (NIV)

A~ When the devil comes after me, and he does, all I need is scripture. My flesh is weak and temptations to be lazy are many. When I feel like slacking off on my responsibilities:  “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” Colossians 3:23 (NIV)

When I am short tempered and annoyed with my spouse or children: “Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly.” Proverbs 14:29 (NIV)

When I want to eat and drink the things I know are not good for me but taste good: “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NIV)

This book in front of me (the Bible) has everything I need to resit the temptations of life. Is it easy? NO. Is it possible? Absolutely. The more scripture I have memorized, the easier it is to speak it against satan’s schemes. I am so weak by myself. I am easy to lead astray. When I am walking with God, HE fights for me. Keeping my heart aligned with His and resisting temptation makes me healthy.

P~ Father, thank you for fighting my battles. Thank you for the power of Your word as my weapon against the evil one. He comes to “steal, kill, and destroy,” but You are my Savior and protector. As temptations come, remind me to turn to You. Thank you for the grace You offer when I inevitably mess up. Thank You for the love and acceptance You offer me always. Amen

“People are unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered. Love them anyway. If you do good, people may accuse you of selfish motives. Do good anyway. If you are successful, you may win false friends and true enemies. Succeed anyway. The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway. Honesty and transparency make you vulnerable. Be honest and transparent anyway. What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight. Build anyway. People who really want help may attack you if you help them. Help them anyway. Give the world the best you have and you may get hurt. Give the world your best anyway.”
