December 4, 2018 Hosea 10-12; Psalm 73; Luke 2:41-3:20

“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. Click HERE to go directly to the daily reading if you wish.

Love and Justice | Joni Tyner

S~ So now, come back to your God.

Act with love and justice,

And always depend on Him. Hosea 12:6 (NLT)

O~ Hosea is teaching that love and justice are two core values of God’s character.  As Christians we need to embrace loving others while having  accountability for sin.  This can be very tricky in today’s culture!

A/P~ Dear Lord,  I desire to be a wise woman that pleases You.  I ask that You would infuse me with humility and that my natural response is to have trust and not fear or a prideful attitude that I have things under control.  I really want to trust You for every area of my life.  Give me clear vision to see people that need love and help me speak wisely when there is sin that infiltrates the situation.  I ask that people see You when I interact with them.

What Should We Do? | Tara Wiley

S~ Luke 3:8, 10-14 (NLT)

8 Prove by the way you live that you have repented of your sins and turned to God.

10 The crowds asked, “What should we do?”

11 John replied, “If you have two shirts, give one to the poor. If you have food, share it with those who are hungry.”

12 Even corrupt tax collectors came to be baptized and asked, “Teacher, what should we do?”

13 He replied, “Collect no more taxes than the government requires.”

14 “What should we do?” asked some soldiers.

John replied, “Don’t extort money or make false accusations. And be content with your pay.”

O~ I love 1 Cor 12:5-6 in light of the above verses: “There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in us.”

So often I want to serve the way I see someone else serving. I perceive a lack in my spiritual walk because I don’t serve in the same way. I worry that maybe I’m not really faithful after all. I forget the lesson in these verses in Luke and 1 Corinthians: the way each of us lives out the fruit of our repentance is as unique as our DNA. Oh, thank God I do not have to live up to God’s calling in someone else’s life; I must only follow His work in me.

A~ Celebrate what God is doing in others’ lives, but don’t let it cause doubt. Stay close to God, and respond to what He is calling ME to do, to change, to give.

P~ Lord, You know I want to be fruitful for You. I want to have so many gifts to lay at Your feet one day. I get afraid that I am not living out Your calling the way I should, especially when I start comparing my life with others’ lives. Fill me with Your peace in the process of walking with You. Thank You for being so individual with each of us, so personal. Thank You for choosing to use each of us to display a different facet of Your radiance. Today, let me prove Your love by the way You call me to live and serve, and to be content there.
