God’s Testing | John Deases

S~  In your distress you called and I rescued you,

I answered you out of a thundercloud;

I tested you at the waters of Meribah.  Psalm 81:7 (NIV)

O~ The psalmist says he heard an unknown voice speak, presumably the voice of God. God says He tested Israel at the waters of Meribah. In reading Wikipedia, the source of all good information, Meribah was the place where the Israelites demanded water from Moses.  According to the text, God says He tested you at the waters of Meribah. The audience was the nation of Israel. That test originated with God Himself.

A~ God is in the business of testing us from time to time. I wonder how many times I flunked the test or freaked out about the test. At any rate, the great thing about taking a test is that it is just a temporary process God uses to see if we are ready for the next chapter in life. I believe a big test of our faith is when God withholds His love, attention, presence, etc. during a challenging time in life. Right now, I’m in the middle of a selling my investment property. It has been quite the ordeal to do the repairs and cleaning of a 4,000 square foot house. I spend hours every day to move this mammoth of a house to the market. I am working full time at my regular job and working full time trying to sell this property. The work done seems like a drop in the bucket compared to the work which still needs to be completed.  And throughout this process, I feel I have been tested in so many ways, like a burglary incident, a rogue painter, a disgruntled tenant, a creeper, the thermostat, and the list goes on. I believe I am being tested with these challenges along the way to see how I will respond. It appears God is distant during some of these challenges. So, what do I do? I press onward. I believe this is what God would have me do.

P~ I pray to the God who delights in testing His children. Lord, let me pass each test that comes my way, knowing the test is just a measurement of my character. May each “God test” teach me about my shortcomings and character, so I can work on these areas to the glory of God.

Our team would love the privilege of praying for you! Please share how we can lift you in prayer at
