“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. Click HERE to go directly to the daily reading if you wish.

S~ “Then He added, ‘Son of man, let all my words sink deep into your own heart first. Listen to them carefully for yourself.’” Ezekiel 3:10 (NLT)

“But Jesus said, ‘No, go home to your family, and tell them everything the Lord has done for you and how merciful He has been.’” Mark 5:19 (NLT)

O~ I have a habit of exemplifying the bad things in my life. So, I tend to forget about God. The world takes up more of my thoughts, and therefore my actions, than He does. I’m more apt to share the fact that I’ve had a bad day and all that entails than to share the gifts and blessings that God has been so gracious to share with me during the course of that day. I pray that I want to feel His Love for me in a real, tangible way, but I feel as if I am making the bare minimum effort to really get to know Him. I don’t pray very much, and I have been blocking my heart from Him, trying to hold on to some semblance of “independence”; look where that got Adam and Eve.

I need to trust Him again, with anything and everything. And, most importantly, leave those that say that I’m a fool or that I’m doing the wrong thing to God. Pray for them, and love them as He does.

A~ Make trust and prayer a priority.

P~ Lord Jesus, Thank You for showing me Your Wisdom and Grace today. Please help me to trust You as I have in the past. I want that feeling back, Lord. That everything is going to be ok no matter what me or anyone else is going through, because You have everything under control, always and forever. If I’m labeled as a “Jesus Freak” in a world that loves it’s labels, then ok. I know, in my heart, that I am devoted to You and You alone.

Please help me with this, Lord. I’m not strong enough to handle this journey on my own. Please teach me and help me to learn to surrender and devote everything to You, Lord.

In Your Name I pray,

Watchman | John Deases

S~  At the end of seven days the word of the Lord came to me: “Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the people of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me.” Ezekiel 3:16-17 (NIV)

O~ God tells Ezekiel his assignment and gives him a job description lest there be any confusion. Ezekiel is now the watchman for the people of Israel. What that entails is answered in verse 17, which says, “hear the word I speak (God speaking) and give them (Israel) warning from me.”  In this instance, God speaks clearly to his servant Ezekiel and makes it easy for him to take his next step.

A~ Recently, I was talking to a coworker about an ordeal I just went through. After I was done sharing, I mentioned to my coworker how I feel I need to share this story/testimony to a youth group.  My coworker’s eyes got bigger and he followed up with a request for me to come share my story to his church youth group on Sunday. In an instant, I knew this opportunity was given to me just like Ezekiel got his assignment from God. I gladly accepted the offer, and 4 days later I was able to deliver a message to his youth group (and, apparently, the entire congregation). Like Ezekiel, I feel God wants me to avail myself of opportunities to share my testimony and be a watchman for God’s people.

P~ Lord, I pray I hear Your word and speak Your warning (share my testimony) to Your people. Thank You for the privilege of serving You as a watchman. I pray for more opportunities in the days to come.  Lastly, I pray You would protect me from the Evil One who desires to steal, kill, and destroy Your new plans for my life.

Our team would love the privilege of praying for you! Please share how we can lift you in prayer at

  1. Chelsea , boy, I’m chewing and identifying with your comment, “I am more apt to share all the details of my bad day than the gifts and blessings of the day.” Holy cow, you aren’t alone in that situation. I’ve been attempting to write down 10 things I’m grateful for each day and as I go back in read them, I feel so incredibly blessed. I was going through a bad time a few weeks back and, as I look back at that situation, it now seems so small compared to the 100’s of blessings (literally) I have written down over the last five weeks. I would encourage you to write down what you are grateful for! I’m grateful for you sharing on Discover One Thing. You have a powerful voice that is making ripples for God’s Kingdom in your little piece of the world. You go girl!!!!
