October 17, 2018 Jeremiah 5,6; Revelation 11:15-12:6

“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. Click HERE to go directly to the daily reading if you wish.

Focus on Me, not the Storm | Chelsea Horne

S~ To whom can I speak and give warning? Who will listen to me? Their ears are closed so they cannot hear. The word of the Lord is offensive to them; they find no pleasure in it. Jeremiah 6:10 (NIV)

She gave birth to a son, a male child, who “will rule all the nations with an iron scepter.” And her child was snatched up to God and to His throne. Revelation 12:5 (NIV)

O~ Early this morning, I decided to read my Bible, rather than turn on a movie to help me go back to sleep (As is my usual habit). The Holy Spirit revealed something very interesting to me during this time with Him. I was reading about when Peter saw Jesus walking on the water and decided to step out of the boat and come to Him. God showed me the description of this story and Peter’s struggle is very similar to my struggle in my fast (I am doing a 40-day media fast, which includes movies and TV). Peter stepped out of the boat, out of what was comfortable and decided to walk to Jesus amidst what was uncomfortable. As long as he kept his focus and eyes on Jesus, he was fine. ‘But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”’ (Matthew 14:30). The beautiful turning point in the story is what happened next, Matthew says, “Immediately Jesus reaches out His hand and caught him.” (Matthew 14:31a). Immediately, Matthew says! No hesitation, no delay! When Peter needed Him, Jesus was right there!

Likewise, in Revelation, a woman was giving birth to her child, and a dragon poised himself about her to devour her child once he was born, but, as His Word says: “And her child was snatched up to God and to His throne.” (Revelation 12:5b). God was right there to save her and her child! Not only that: “The woman fled into the wilderness to a place prepared for her by God, where she might be taken care of for 1,260 days.” (Revelation 12:6). God took care of her and gave her a place to heal! I’ve never had children, but I know that the pains of labor and delivering a child take quite a toll on the body and, as a result, healing is required. Not only did God save her and her son, He gave her a safe place to heal and to be taken care of!

Both of these are connected with my current struggle in my fast. I see the storm raging around me, opposition to my desire and need to be closer to Jesus. I can see the lightning, hear the thunder roar, feel the wind try to throw me off balance, but I am thankful that Jesus has reminded me of the choice that is available. I can choose to focus on the chaos of the storm, or I can choose to fix my eyes and heart on Jesus. I can choose to trust that He will catch me when I fall and continue to seek Him with all of my heart.

A~ I want my life to be a testimony to Jesus’ Love, Grace, and Goodness! I want others to see Him and only Him when they look in my eyes and hear my voice! I will trust that Jesus can and will rescue me when I fall. I will trust in His Guidance and Strength. He has invited me into this season with Him, and He will not leave me stranded to figure it out on my own! He’ll walk with me for every step along the way!

P~ Lord Jesus, Thank You for the time that I got to spend with You at 3 o’clock this morning! Thank You for Your Love and Protection! Please help me to live in the Truth that You have shown me. Please help me to find refuge, strength, hope, and love in Your Name and in Your Truth. Please humble me as a child, teach me to have child-like faith and help me to trust You as my loving Father – completely confident in Your Strength and in Your unconditional and faithful Love for me!

In Your Name I pray,

Even If | Joni Tyner

S~ If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty. But even if he doesn’t we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up. Daniel 3:17-18 (NLT) (off plan today 🙂 )

O~ Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego are before King Nebuchadnezzar and are being given the opportunity to deny God or be thrown into the fire.  They respond that they believe God will rescue them, and even if He doesn’t, they will continue to faithful and worship God. They are determined to trust God no matter what.

A~ Mercy Me has a song called, “Even If”  that is in reference to this scripture.  It is about making the choice to love and serve God even if we don’t get answers to our prayers and life’s circumstances leave us broken hearted, confused, and shaking our head in disbelief.

My heart is heavy for the pain my friend goes through as today is the 1 year anniversary of losing her son in extremely difficult, confusing circumstances.  Her grief is constant, yet she continues to hold tight to God as He sustains her through the darkest nights.  She fights to push forward and continue to be a light in this dark world. She is a beautiful example of choosing joy no matter what.

P~ Dear Lord, I pray for Your flooding of grace on this family as they grief their son, brother, friend. I pray their tears find healing through You and that You continue to hold them through tough, tough days.  Please pour fresh love on them as they go about each day.

Here is the Mercy Me video, I invite readers to watch it and trust God, Even If they  don’t see answers to prayer in this lifetime.

Our team would love the privilege of praying for you! Please share how we can lift you in prayer at prayer@DiscoverOneThing.com
