Heart Service | John Deases

S~ “If you, Israel, will return,
then return to me,”
declares the Lord.
“If you put your detestable idols out of my sight
and no longer go astray,
and if in a truthful, just and righteous way
you swear, ‘As surely as the Lord lives,’
then the nations will invoke blessings by him
and in him they will boast.” Jeremiah 4:1-2 (NIV)

O~ In this passage, the Lord is calling for a true commitment from his beloved Israel and not just lip service. And if there was any confusion on the matter, the Lord spells out what that commitment entails, which is to return wholeheartedly, put detestable idols away, and no longer go astray.

A~ One highlight of my junior year of high school was attending the end-of-the-year sports banquet. The reason the banquet was so memorable was because I received a plaque and formal recognition before the entire school body. The plaque was given to me for being the Most Dedicated Wrestler. First of all, I was completely in shock when my name was called and secondly, I felt a sense of sweet satisfaction that my wrestling commitment was rewarded in such a big way. I look back on that day as a defining moment because I learned the value of hard work. I also learned that hard work is sometimes rewarded with plaques and stuff.
As I reflect upon my junior year, I’m reminded that the Apostle Paul said he fought the good fight, he finished the race, and he kept the faith. The Apostle Paul was 100% dedicated to serving the Lord. Perhaps in heaven the Apostle Paul will be formally recognized for his efforts. That being said, I would be wise to follow the mighty example the Apostle Paul left behind.

P~ Lord, I pray You help me to put detestable idols away and to never go astray. Strengthen my devotion to You and may it not just be lip service.

Our team would love the privilege of praying for you! Please share how we can lift you in prayer at prayer@DiscoverOneThing.com
