“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. Shout it!! | Marisa Hartman

S~ You who bring good news to Zion, go up on a high mountain. You who bring good news to Jerusalem, lift up your voice with a shout, lift it up, do not be afraid; say to the towns of Judah, “Here is your God!” Isaiah 40:9 (NIV)

O~ The people were worshipping idols and had turned from God. Isaiah is beseeching them to look to the only God. He has no equal, no one even close. Shout the good news that God is here and loves us.

A~ Our world is filled with a lot of negativity right now. Turning on the news or reading the newspaper is depressing. The way our country has become so divided and violent is unsettling. Our country needs God. We each need God. We have the best news to share, God’s redemptive grace, and mostly we are silent. I am not great about proclaiming His goodness in my everyday life. He has been so, so good and has provided for me and my family over and over. I have every reason to shout His goodness from the rooftops, but I don’t. There is a band called All Sons and Daughters. The chorus from their song All the Poor and Powerless rings in my ears as I read this verse:

“Shout it, go on and scream it from the mountains. Go on and tell it to the masses that He is God.”

I am supposed to be spreading His love and His joy, but I get sucked into the frustration and ick of the world sometimes too. I do find, however, the more time I spend at His feet reading my Bible or praying, the easier it is to focus on the joy and hope around me. There is hope for this lost world. His name is Jesus. “Here is your God!” He’s right here waiting to lavish us with his peace and acceptance. All we have to do is spend time with Him and seek Him. Deuteronomy 4:29 says: But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.

If you seek Him, you will find him. Shout it sisters. Shout out His goodness to everyone you meet.

P~ Father thank you for the reminder of my calling. Lord, I love you so much and am proud to be called yours. Forgive me for the times I back away. Forgive me for getting caught up in my own thing. You are the “one thing.” You are MY one thing.

So Will I | Joni Tyner

S~  Who else has held the oceans in his hand?

Who has measured off the heavens with his fingers?

Who else knows the weight of the earth

Or has weighed the mountains and hills on a scale?

Isaiah 40:12 (NLT)

O~ Isaiah is pointing out that NOBODY can compare to God.  God is worthy of our devotion and praise because of who He is.

A~ I really can’t wrap my mind around these scriptures, God is so big and so vast and is so far removed from any category I can understand.  He is the creator and He is worthy of all of my praise.

P~ Dear Lord, help keep this close in my thinking when I start to doubt that You are going to do something or if people/circumstances will ever change.  Holy cow!!!!! You created and measured the seas with your hands and know how much the mountains weigh.  That is so amazing to me.  I pray for a renewed heart of awe and praise and gratitude for all You are.

Here’s a song that reminds me of this scripture.

The Great Debate | John Deases

S~ “Present your case,” says the Lord.“Set forth your arguments,” says Jacob’s King. “Tell us, you idols, what is going to happen. Tell us what the former things were,so that we may consider them and know their final outcome. Or declare to us the things to come, tell us what the future holds, so we may know that you are gods. Do something, whether good or bad, so that we will be dismayed and filled with fear. But you are less than nothing and your works are utterly worthless; whoever chooses you is detestable. Isaiah 41: 21-24 (NIV)

O~ The Helper of Israel (God Himself) speaks to all idols and issues a challenge: Where is the proof that there is any god like the Most High God? Is there a god somewhere who can predict the future or explain the past? Of course, all other gods are but images made in man’s likeness and are without power. God lays out a standard which establishes He is the one true God.

A~ In the movie God’s Not Dead, there is a scene in which an atheist professor tells his class to sign a declaration that God is dead in order to pass a philosophy class. One student takes issue with this declaration and refuses to sign the declaration. The professor then decides to set up three debates and have the class decide the winner. At the end of the third and final debate, it is clear the student has won the day. The entire classroom stands up and supports the student. The professor leaves the classroom in denial. In essence, the professor puts God on trial and, to the professor’s shame, he loses. The professor presented his case and set forth his arguments, but the student came out on top. Scripture talks about how God will sometimes use the foolish things to confound the wise.

To present our case and set forth our arguments to the Creator of the Universe is quite silly. I may not formally go about doing this, but when I choose to do things my way and go against the grain of God’s truth, then perhaps I’m presenting my case to God. When I choose strife, hatred, jealousy, pride, selfishness, lust, anger, or a host of other wayward actions, then I’m presenting my case to God.

P~ Father God, I’m thankful that at age 24 I stopped presenting my case, a/k/a justifying my sin and/or rationalizing my selfishness. I finally accepted Your game plan for my life. Help me to no longer set forth arguments against Your purposes for my life.

Our team would love the privilege of praying for you! Please share how we can lift you in prayer at prayer@DiscoverOneThing.com
