“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. You are My Treasure | Kim Chipman
S~ In that day he will be your sure foundation, providing a rich store of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge. The fear of the Lord will be your treasure. Isaiah 33:6 (NIV)
O~ My study Bible cross references Matthew 6:33: Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
A~ It’s funny, I just started a 90 day challenge to finish the year strong. Often we start the year strong but fizzle out by the end.
Just the other day a friend quoted this verse from Matthew and it reminded me that this was my verse for the year this year. My word this year is FIRST.
It all seems so interesting to me when a bunch of things like this all intersect at the same time. I see You working in my life clearly when this happens…when several seemingly unrelated things all point me to the same thing.
You are my sure foundation. You have a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge. The thing is – I need to choose You. I need to seek You FIRST. I need to not only be convinced that You are trustworthy, but I need to actually live like You are. Not just think about it or learn the information but actually think and make choices based on trust.
Somehow lately I’ve gone back to putting You, and my walk with You, in more of a compartment that the penetrating, saturating thing it should be. Time to change that now that I see it.
P~ Lord, help me to live transformed. I know this comes from renewing my mind (Rom 12:2). Help me to take each thought captive to obey You. I love You!
A Wearisome Place | Kelley Deases
S~ You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary. Revelation 2:3 (NIV)
O~ This world is a wearisome place. On Friday morning when we were gathered with our Bible study group, I had on my heart to share how my nephew posted about his suicide attempt and how my youngest son, who has always loved school and excelled in his studies, is now feeling defeated and wants us to pull him out. During the time we were meeting, I received two text messages, one right after the other, from one friend whose brother was going in for experimental brain surgery and another whose father was on lifesaving machines following a heart attack. This world is a wearisome place.
A~ I want to be commended by my Father for persevering, enduring hardship and not growing weary. But some days, it’s all simply too much! The road can be hard and bumpy and so, so long. This is where I remember I need Christ to help me follow Christ. I am weak, but He is strong. I am weary, but He never tires. I need His perseverance and His endurance. It is only as I remain in Him that I have any hope of finishing this race well.
P~ Father, Give me what You alone possess and what I very much need — to be a persevering mom, an enduring aunt, a faithful wife and a friend who will not grow weary and fall away.
Hearing the Spirit | Joni Tyner
S~ Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches. Revelation 2:11 (NLT)
O~ John is the writer of Revelation. Yesterday I journaled a very similar scripture from Isaiah, “Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, ‘This is the way you should go.’—Isaiah 30:21 “ …my observation is: God’s Word is consistent from Genesis to Revelation. He speaks to us through His printed Word and through His Spirit, we need to tune in and listen!!!
A/P~ Dear Lord, my heart’s cry is to know You more intimately and be in tune with what You desire for me. I pray for constant nudges to “get it” when You speak to me. Please continue to nudge my heart when You have an assignment for me and I am missing it. ☹ I’m sorry I get so caught up in doing stuff that I often neglect You. I also ask that You would increase my wisdom of understanding of all of Your truths. I pray for appropriate words to share with others that help them to understand and hear Your Spirit.
Our team would love the privilege of praying for you! Please share how we can lift you in prayer at prayer@DiscoverOneThing.com
