“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. A Faithful God | Kimi Miller
S~ So the LORD must wait for you to come to him so he can show you his love and compassion. For the LORD is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for his help. Isaiah 30:18 (NLT)
O~ You are a gentleman – You never force Your way into my heart; instead, You always wait to be invited. But no matter what I’ve done, or how I ask – You always come when I do. You come because You are a faithful God.
A~ For the past few years, I’ve always prayed about one specific word to focus on for the new year. I’ve found that to be more effective than listing out a bunch of resolutions. One word that captures the heart of what You want the year to be for me.
About half way through this year, I forgot about my word. I literally forgot what my word was! I can’t thank my friend, Samantha, enough who gave me a tangible reminder – a sweet handmade bracelet with my word engraved on it.
I opened up my jewelry drawer, and there it was – the word, and direction I’d forgotten. SEEK.
When I saw it, I realized why I wasn’t moving forward in my healing. I wasn’t seeking You – not really, and certainly not wholeheartedly. I wasn’t looking for You, or searching for You. I wasn’t inviting You in. I guess that was because I blamed You.
I blamed You for calling me into a role I thought You made me to fill, and then I blamed You for the hurt of having to let it go. If You hadn’t invited me into it in the first place, we wouldn’t be here! And so, I stopped talking to You. But I knew You were always there, still, by my side.
SEEK. Then, I remembered. You promise that when I seek You with all my heart, I will find You. In that moment, I saw so clearly why I wasn’t healing – why I was stagnant. I wasn’t seeking You.
So I repented. I turned away from my pouting and turned back to You. And You were there to be found – right where You had been all along – by my side – waiting for me to come to You. You embraced me and showed my Your love and compassion. Because You are a faithful God. You don’t have to come, but you ALWAYS do.
This song encompasses all that I feel for You, my God and my King. Thank You.
P~ I invite You into my heart, mind, emotions – all of me and all of my heart. Come, Lord Jesus, come and have Your way – make Yourself at home inside my heart. Transform me from the inside out. I love You, Lord. Thank You for rescuing me – every time – especially in the times I forget I need rescuing.
Hearing God’s Voice | Joni Tyner
S~ Your own ears will hear Him.
Right behind you a voice will say,
‘This is the way you should go,’
Whether to the right or the left.
Then the LORD will bless you with rain at planting time. There will be wonderful harvest and plenty of pastureland for your livestock. Isaiah 30:21, 23 (NIV)
O~ God’s Spirit will speak to me and give prompts about life decisions. Verse 23 is reminding me that He will bless me when I am in His will and the result will be bountiful blessings.
A~ This scripture is reminding me that I first need to tune my ears to listen to the promptings of the Holy Spirit and he will guide my steps. I find it reassuring that it says it may be “left” or “right”. I think this means that there will be times when I need to make a decision and either way will be in God’s Will for my life.
I don’t think that life is a series of decisions and that only one way is the “right way”. I believe that if we are seeking to be in God’s presence and being used by Him, we will be doing His will. For example, years ago I made the decision to continue to work part time as my kids were little and I believe God has led my steps in my career to be used by Him. I have had many divine appointments with patients, their families, co-workers and others that I would not have had if I had chose to be a full time stay-at-home mom. I have had extra income that I have been able to use in ways that I believe contributed to the Kingdom. But, if I had chosen to not work, I also believe God would have guided my steps and I would have been used in a different, but equally important way. I believe it is a heart condition of humility and seeking to give God glory. (of course this is assuming that both choices are not countering the Bible’s Truth.) Verse 23 reminds me that God will water the seeds and eventually there will be a wonderful harvest.
I was recently in a conversation with some ladies about how sometimes a short encounter of maybe 1-2 minutes can change the direction of our lives. Years ago, my friend, Kim, was at the grocery store with her busy crew of 4 young’ns and a lady invited her to a morning Bible study. She decided to go that week and, through that Bible study, God led her to other believers who poured into her life and grew her faith. (this was in Hawaii) Kim and eventually moved to the Omaha area and was faithful to share her passion of the Bible with others which eventually led to the development of this website, Discover One Thing. I doubt the woman at the grocery store had any idea that her 2 minute invite to the tired, busy mama would cause such a ripple effect. But God.
P~ Dear Lord, please give me sharp hearing to hear Your Voice!!!! I ask for Biblical discernment to respond in a way that gives You glory. I also ask that when I choose the wrong path that You pursue me and get me back on track. Thank you for pursuing so many before me that were faithful to listen to Your voice which caused a ripple effect. Please use all of us in our little sphere’s of influence to bring You glory.
