S~ But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness; he does not know where he is going, because darkness has blinded him. 1 John 2:11 (NIV)

O~ When I first read this, I thought of a believer in my life who openly doesn’t like people and really doesn’t talk to them.  It’s a blindspot they have.  My notes in the Bible say that John is addressing the attitude that causes us to ignore, despise others, or treat them as irritants, competitors, or enemies.  Ugh, this verse isn’t about the believer in my life, it’s for me.

A~ Sometimes I ignore a certain person and often I treat them as an irritant.  The Word says that I don’t know where I’m going because darkness has blinded me.  My bible notes say that, ‘God’s love is a choice.  I can choose to be concerned with people’s well being and treat them with respect, whether or not I feel affection toward them.  If I choose to love others, God will help me express that love.’

No one is an irritant.  No one purposely annoys me.  No one should be ignored.  If I feel irritation, annoyance inside of me – those are feelings I have.  I can choose to not respond in a way that I feel.  I can choose to be concerned with their well-being and treat them with respect.

I think this one person keeps coming into my life because God really wants me to learn this lesson.

P~ Abba, thank You for this difficult relationship.  When I sense announce, frustration, irritation, alert me to this, “these are my feelings, I have a choice in my response.”  Let my actions, words, body language, attitude say that I’m concerned with them and convey respect to them, and ultimately Your love.  I pray this in Jesus’ Name!

Our team would love the privilege of praying for you! Please share how we can lift you in prayer at
