“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. “Forgetting” God | Chelsea Horne
S~ It is one’s honor to avoid strife, but every fool is quick to quarrel. Proverbs 20:3 (NIV)
O~ I get so easily caught up in the ways of the world. When people that I respect are acting a certain way, I inadvertently start to match them and I forget about God. I start to match their words and begin to speak badly about others, and that is definitely not glorifying to God. I seem to forget who I am, and who He is in me. This has to change! I need and will pray about this. I will also ask for God’s Strength, Help, and Direction.
A~ I need to start praying more diligently. When I feel myself slipping back into old habits, when I begin to feel distant from God, I need to go to Him right then and there! Don’t wait! I need to repent of my sins the second that the Holy Spirit puts it on my heart that I have sinned, not wait until I have time! Jesus has never pushed me off to the side and said, “I’ll get to you in a minute, Chelsea.” So, I need to be just as diligent about my relationship with Him.
P~ Father, I’m sorry for allowing myself to get so caught up in the world. Please help me to recognize when I start to forget about You in my daily living, and please help me to surrender my sins and to turn back to You in that very same moment. Thank You for always being there for me, and allowing me to be Your Daughter! Thank You for choosing me to be apart of this massive family! I love You, Father!
In Jesus’ Name I pray,
Amen
Effective and Productive | Kim Chipman
S~ For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 1:8 (NIV)
O~ If I possess what qualities? Faith, goodness, knowledge, self control, perseverance, godliness, mutual affection and love. These qualities are very similar to the fruit of the Spirit.
Gal 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
A~ I can’t think of anything more disappointing than to have my life be ineffective and unproductive. There is nothing I want more than to be effective and productive. So here’s HOW to guard against it. (I love things that show me HOW. Often I know what but not how)
And this is a perfect example of simple (to understand) but not easy (to do). This list of character qualities breaks down the HOW nicely, but geez! I live and interact with people all. the. time. Being patient and kind isn’t always easy. I live in a world filled with temptation. Self control and faithfulness isn’t always easy.
But You never promised it would be easy, just worth it. And You left me with the precious gift of the Holy Spirit. Really I think remaining connected to You is the HOW. You will bear fruit through me. I need to do my part and You will do Yours.
P~ Thank You for this reminder today. I want my knowledge of You to be effective and productive. Flow through me today. I love You.
Self-control | guest post
S~ For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith…For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 1:5,8 (NIV)
O~ Peter lays out qualities that I can pursue that will keep me from being ineffective and unproductive. It’s also a good gauge for my spiritual growth. Do I have more of these characteristics today then six months ago? a year ago? five years ago? They are goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love.
A/P~ Abba, one quality, self-control seems to be a stronghold for me, especially when applied to my physical body. As I’m in a short season of self imposed self-control, use that to grow me in knowledge about You!
