“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. Committed to Him | Kelley Deases
S~ Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed. Proverbs 16:3 (NIV)
O~ As we step out into what God is calling us to do, and seek His guidance and favor, we will be successful (although God’s measure of success does not always match up with our own or that of the world).
A~ Several years ago, God laid it on my heart to start a Bible study to introduce a few friends of mine to the SOAP method of reading the Word and journaling. As we reconvened the group after the summer break, we had grown to such a level that my living was packed with a record 18 women. What a great “problem” to have! I began to realize we were no longer a “small group” by definition, where each woman has opportunity to share openly and freely. After prayer and conversation with my husband, we decided it would be good to experiment with splitting our group between two rooms during sharing time, even as we still gather in one house and pray as a large group to conclude the morning. I tapped one member as my co-facilitator, but God soon revealed to her and to me that He had someone else in mind for that role. Upon hearing of the “split,” I was met with some apprehensive looks, which seemed to show a reluctance to part with close friends (even to the next room) or change the way we had always done things. But, in the end, our experiment went smoothly. In my small group, every woman got a chance to share a word she’d received and a prayer request. We circled up for prayer as a large group so we could all hear one another’s praises and concerns. It was quite beautiful. I trust He will continue to bless this fellowship as we continue to commit it to Him.
P~ Father, I understand the principle of what we commit to You, You grant success. I have seen this play out for the past several years as You have brought women into my life and into my home who long to know You more and have community with other believers. Thank You for what You have done in and through this gathering of sisters.
Be Alert and Courageous | Kim Chipman
S~ Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8 (NIV)
O~ Job 1:7 The Lord said to Satan, “Where have you come from?” Satan answered the Lord, “From roaming throughout the earth, going back and forth on it.”
A~ Not to be paranoid, but the fact is that there is an enemy. There is. It’s important to BE ALERT. Not get comfortable or complacent.
In this Sunday’s sermon my pastor opened with this: “Has your life been defined by comfort or courage? Making a difference requires moving from self-preservation to courage.”
I’ve had moments of courage, but if I’m honest with myself, my life has been way more about self-preservation than courage.
And I want to change that.
It’s been said “if the devil can’t make you bad he’ll make you busy”. I’d add distracted. It is essential for me to be alert and of sober mind. I truly want to champion the cause of helping others grow in their relationship with Jesus. To live free not only in the next life, but in THIS life. I want it for myself and I want it for others. Especially MY PEOPLE. That does require doing hard things, having hard conversations, choosing discipline and healthy habits. I know fear is holding me back from some things. And laziness if I’m honest with myself. But this is important. It’s what I’m here for. The enemy wants to take me down. To pull me away from You.
P~ Lord, help me to not drift into self-preservation but to live courageously. Help me to lead my children well. Help me to lead myself well. I love You!
