August 19, 2018 Job 17; Hebrews 11:21-40

“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. Click HERE to go directly to the daily reading if you wish.

I Want To Hear From You | Luisa Penaherrera

S~ You must defend my innocence, O God, since no one else will stand up for me.  Job 17:3  (NLT)

O~ Job’s friends were giving him advice that did not apply to him.  Job knew it and continued to turn to God.

A~ This is something I struggle with and am still working on.  I used to take what others said and then doubt what I thought God showed me. I realize now that my faith was growing and those trying times were to help it grow.

P~ Heavenly Father, you desire an intimate relationship with each of us and desire to speak directly to our lives.  Thank you for loving me so wonderfully.  Help me remember to turn to you and trust you.  To listen to you when the opinions of others are different and especially when the fears of my heart agree with those opposing opinions. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Live Righteous | Kim Chipman

S~ Nevertheless, the righteous will hold to their ways, and those with clean hands will grow stronger. Job 17:9 (NIV)

O~ Poor Job. His friends were giving him such a hard time. My study Bible says: “Obviously these men had a faulty view of wisdom. They assumed that because they were prosperous and successful, God must be pleased with the way they were living and thinking. Job, however, told his friends that they were starting with the wrong idea because earthly success and prosperity are not proof of faith in God. Likewise, trouble and affliction do not prove faithlessness. The truly wise man knows that wisdom comes from God alone, not from human successes or failures and the truly wise man never forsakes God.”

A~ This is all super encouraging to me. It’s easy to gauge if I’m “doing it right” based on results. (like immediate) But that’s not Your way! “the righteous will hold to their ways” – not based on circumstances (immediate results). A lot is delayed gratification…fruit in another season. I need to stay the course, make good decisions – faith-filled decisions, do what I know is Your best even in the face of resistance or ridicule. Doing the right thing, especially when it’s hard, will help me to grow stronger.

P~ Lord, help me hold to my ways (YOUR ways) no matter what! I pray You would be glorified through my life. I love You!

Our team would love the privilege of praying for you! Please share how we can lift you in prayer at
