July 1, 2018 2 Chronicles 6,7; Psalm 135; 1 Thessalonians 1

“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. Am I welcome? | guest post

S~ May Your eyes be open toward this temple day and night, this place of which You said You would put Your Name there.   May You hear the prayer Your servant prays toward this place. 2 Chronicles 6:20 (NIV)

O~ Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, Who is in you, Whom you have received from God?  ~ 1 Corinthians 6:19 (NIV)

A~ Do I dare come back to this sacred space between me and God?  This time that I once consistently came to and shared with Him, but now have only been coming to on occasion.  Does He even want me back in our sacred space?  Can He really be waiting for me after I haven’t shown up in so long?

Well, thank You Jesus for friends who come to your crazy messy house and lovingly call you out to get back into that sacred space.  Those people who say, ‘stop it and get going’, and who point me back to Jesus because He is the only One that really matters or has answers.

As I step back into this sacred space, I just wonder (again)  if I’m really welcome.  Then I read Solomon’s prayer when the temple is dedicated, and I also remember that my body is a temple where the Spirit of God lives.

May Your eyes [Dad] be open toward me day and night.  Your eyes are always on me, and Your Name marks me.  I am Yours.

So, yes, an outrageously and inappropriately loud YES is my answer to the question of am I welcomed back into the sacred space!

P~ Abba, thank You!  For Your Word, my friend, wisdom that flowed through her.  I love You!

Prayer Blocks | Joni Tyner

S~ At times I might shut up the heavens so that no rain falls, or command grasshoppers to devour your crops, or send plagues among you. Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.  My eyes will be open and my ears attentive to every prayer made in this place.  2 Chronicles 7:13-15 (NLT)

O~ This is the LORDS response to Solomon’s request to make provisions for people who have sinned. (from my Bible notes)

A~ God is acknowledging that there are times when it appears He isn’t answering prayer and allowing difficult circumstances in the lives of His people.  This scripture is making me realize that if prayer isn’t being answered, it might be because I don’t have the right attitude.  God is moved by humble hearts and sincere repentance.  I know I have frequently prayed for other people to change and do ____________ or not do ____________ , yet I seldom pray and examine my own heart in that situation.  This scripture is once again reminding me to humble myself, to seek God’s will and not assume that I am always right.  And, I need to evaluate if I am just talking about something or actually changing my behavior.

P~ Dear Lord, I desire to be used by You, that will only be accomplished when I am humbling seeking You and giving You glory and removing myself from the equation.  Please remove my selfish tendency to make it about myself and give me a quiet peace and confidence to know that You see my heart.  Open my eyes and ears to Your ways.

Laborers In Love | Kelley Deases

S~ We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 1:3 (NIV)

O~ The Apostle Paul, along with his dear friends and partners in ministry, Silas and Timothy, are writing to the church in Thessalonica, letting them know they are undergirded in their good works by prayers lifted up on their behalf.

A~ As I read these words this morning, God brought to mind a certain couple my husband and I have come to know over the past couple of years. Their oldest child is in the same class as our youngest, the wife has been a consistent member of my Bible study and our families have spent time together. This couple has been so fervent in their faith and urgent in their approach, and I have seen it bear much fruit. They are walking through some difficult family relationships, but doing so with truth and grace. They have been a beacon of light in their neighborhood. They have spoken upon His Name at every opportunity and led multiple people to Christ. They are training up four children in the way they should go.

We recently heard there is a chance they might be transferred with the military to another state. This would indeed be a great loss to this community and I, personally, would miss them terribly. But what a blessing they would surely be in the next place they are stationed.

P~ Father, “Thankful” hardly captures my feelings for this family and so many others You have blessed us to know. Bless and strengthen their marriage and family bond during this time of uncertainty and multiply their efforts as they labor for Your Kingdom wherever they are.

Our team would love the privilege of praying for you! Please share how we can lift you in prayer at prayer@DiscoverOneThing.com
