Live Up | Kelley Deases

S~ Only let us live up to what we have already attained. Philippians 3:16 (NIV)

O~ This challenge really resonates with me today. I cannot fathom how I was so fortunate to have been born in the country I was, in the time in history I was, into the family I have and surrounded by the specific people and circumstances to have led me to a saving faith in Jesus Christ. God saw fit to draw me into His family in such a way. Why would He do this for me? I don’t begin to comprehend it, yet I am endlessly grateful. So for His faithfulness to protect me when I was lost and in rebellion, to draw me and call me as His own and to actively journey with me all these years, I want to “live up to what [I] have already attained,” to steal a phrase from Paul.

A~ What does this look like in my life? Living up to my calling? While I can no more earn God’s favor than I can earn my own salvation, I can make daily choices to honor Him over serving myself. I can sow into the life of another even when I am tempted to keep a safe distance. I can embrace the high calling of training up my child and not shrink back or throw up my hands when it’s hard. I can give of my time, energy and finances sacrificially and not just casually or occasionally. There are countless ways I can live up to my calling; it starts with minimizing the Kelley screen and expanding my view of God.

P~ Father, Thank You for calling me to be Yours. That was not me; it was all You. Thank You that ever since then You have continued to call me higher and higher, not content to leave me in the pitiful state in which You found me. May I nurture an earnest desire to live up to what it mean to be a child of the King.
