His Holiness From Our Messes | Kelley Deases
S~ “Now, my son, the Lord be with you and may you have success and build the house of the Lord your God, as he said you would.” 1 Chronicles 22:11 (NIV)
O~ Our God is a God of Redemption. The father quoted here giving a blessing to his son is King David talking to a young Solomon. What is extraordinary about this scene is that the young man about to be crowned king and entrusted with building God’s temple and governing God’s people was a product of his dad’s great moral failure and heinous sin. Years earlier, David had lusted after Bathsheba, was desperate to have her, took her as his wife (one of many) while she was married to another man, and arranged for her husband to be killed to cover up his actions. Yet even out of all that sin and drama, God raised up a king whom he would bestow with great wisdom and would be in the family lineage leading to Jesus Christ Himself.
A~ Last night, my husband and I attended the one-time showing of the movie “Irreplaceable,” released by Focus on the Family. In it, a young husband and father set out on a global journey to investigate the forces leading to the disintegration of the institutions of marriage and family. The more we watched as he was confronted with “hook-ups” on college campuses versus intimacy within marriage; cohabitation versus covenant relationship before God; absentee fathers versus engaged dads; abortion versus nurturing human life — it became almost too much to take in. But then we witnessed glimpses of God and His Kingdom in single moments of people overcoming these forces and the redemption brought about by love and forgiveness.
P~ Thank You for showing Yourself Sovereign and Holy amid a fallen and hurting world, and revealing Yourself to those who have eyes to see.
Diligently Devote My Heart | Kim Chipman
S~ Now devote your heart and soul to seeking the Lord your God. 1 Chronicles 22:19a (NIV)
O~ David is meeting with leaders who will help Solomon build the Temple. I find it interesting that his first instructions are for them to devote their heart and soul to seeking the Lord.
A~ I’m totally a taskmaster. If something needs to get done I’m your girl. I can organize and execute with the best of them.
This verse is particularly timely for me right now. I’ve fallen back into do, do, do, go, go, go. My sit and listen hasn’t been daily, but sporadic, and I feel the shift in my heart.
David’s first instruction for these leaders is absolutely for me today. My heart is messy because I’m not doing this diligently. DAILY. I know I need it.
P~ Thank You for this reminder today! I hear You. This is a priority. I can’t build the Temple of my life until I devote my heart to diligently, DAILY seeking You. I love You!
