Genuine Worship | Joni Tyner

S~ David also ordered the Levite leaders to appoint a choir of Levites who were singers and musicians to sing joyful sons to the accompaniment of harps, lyres, and cymbals.  1 Chronicles 15:16 (NLT)

So all of Israel brought up the Ark of the LORDS’s Covenant up to Jerusalem with shouts of joy, the blowing of rams’ horns and trumpets, the crashing of cymbals, and loud playing on harps and lyres. 15:28 (NLT)

When she saw King David skipping about and laughing with joy; she was filled with contempt for him.   15:29 (NLT) (this scripture is referring to Michal,  David’s wife, judging him for worshipping God in a joyful, expressive way.)

O~ David appointed a worship team to help the people celebrate the moving of the Ark.  My Bible notes say this was a great occasion and God wanted the people to be focused on him and remember this important time.

A~ As I thought about this, I realized that pretty much every sporting event, parade, secular activity is usually accompanied by some type of music that helps us “get in the mood” of the event.  God desires our focus and excitement in worship.  The Bible gives many examples of different types of worship.  In this scripture, there was a variety of instruments and it says the music was loud—this tells me that God delights in our expressive worship to Him.  The last verse referring to Michal, reminds me to not be critical of other people’s worship.  Just as God has created us all unique, (some people are talkers, other more introverted) of course we would worship God differently.  THAT IS OKAY AND GOOD!!!!  The essential piece to worship is that it is heartfelt and genuine, not for show.  Our worship is for the Lord.

P~ Dear Lord, as I go to church this morning, I pray my worships pleases You. Please help me to ignore distractions and focus on loving and enjoying Your presence. I love You.

Live in Freedom | Kim Chipman

S~ But now that you know God—or rather are known by God—how is it that you are turning back to those weak and miserable forces? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again? Galatians 4:9 (NIV)

O~ Gal 5:1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

Rom 6:17-18 But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you have come to obey from your heart the pattern of teaching that has now claimed your allegiance. You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.

Heb 2:1 We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.

A~ The drift back to old ways is sooooooo easy. The old way of doing things, old habits (that I work SO HARD to break!), and old thought patterns. It is for freedom that You have set me free, yet I need to pay most careful attention to the pattern of teaching that has claimed my allegiance. Lately the drift back has been like floating down a lazy river on an inner tube. I’m not providing much resistance.

I must pay most careful attention to what I have heard. I know better. I’m being lazy and I DO NOT want to be enslaved again. Your freedom is THE BEST.

P~ Thank You for Your Word. Your truth is comfort to my soul today. I want Your freedom. I love You!
