Christ’s love, not the world’s | guest post
S~ Saul and Jonathan – in life they were loved and gracious, and in death they were not parted. They were swifter than eagles, they were stronger than lions. 2 Samuel 1:23 (NIV)
O~ Saul, the King who had been chasing David to kill him, is dead. David’s friend, and Saul’s son, Jonathan is also dead. This is part of the lament that David wrote honoring Saul and Jonathan. David ordered his men to sing this lament as well.
A~ I read a book, Kisses from Katie, about one woman’s testimony about pouring her life out for the Kingdom. It’s a beautiful and amazing story! Her pursuit of Christ the love for others comes out in her daily life.
This love Katie has in her reminds me of David’s in this moment he wrote the lament for Saul and Jonathan. David has spent years in the wilderness being hunted by King Saul. Yet, when hearing of the King’s death, David laments over him.
David mourns over the death of his enemy, he doesn’t rejoice or give God praise about the death. What causes a person to genuinely act opposite of what the world says?
David’s heart was so connected to His Savior’s, lamenting was the natural option. I don’t have anyone trying to kill me; but I do have challenging people in my life that I’ve been called to love. If they died, would I lament? Especially those that don’t know the love of Christ?
Love God, love others is truly my call in life. David showed deep love by lamenting in Saul’s death. How should my story of loving others go?
P~ Father, I know Your heart! You are not shaming me because my love for others runs superficial at times. You are showing me that my love for others can expand and grow in ways that only You can do it. Teach me to love my enemies like Jesus called me to in the Sermon on the Mount! Remove my blinders that follow what the world says is love. I pray this in Jesus’ Name!
Audience of One | Kimi Miller
S~ Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of my God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant. Galatians 1:10 (NLT)
O~.Paul had an audience of One.
A~ Working to please an audience of One really is the desire of my heart, but it doesn’t always come naturally for me – especially when I haven’t spent time with You. And when it does happen – when my old people pleasing tendencies start to pop up – I can’t shame myself; I can only repent, and praise You, Holy Spirit, for helping me to recognize when I’m doing it.
P~ Thank You, Lord, for Your refining work in my life. Please continue helping me to keep my eyes on You, Jesus. You are my audience of One. I love You.
