Only through You | Luisa Penaherrera

S~ “I will do everything you say.” Ruth replied. So she went down to the threshing floor that night and followed the instructions of her mother-in-law.  Ruth 3:5 (NLT)

O~ Ruth’s selflessness and loyalty and trust really blow me away!

A~ There are times that I feel I know what the right thing to do is, yet I also feel the pain of what it’s going to cost me- what I will be giving up.  To know the right thing to do, to agree to do the right thing, to do the right thing. Wow, that was Ruth. But there’s more, to continue in the right thing WITH the right heart and attitude!

My struggle with memories of my past and my mistakes makes it really hard for me to move ahead and the same for the pain that returns with the memories of the hurt that others have caused. Ruth did not let fear creep in.

P~ I don’t understand, God.  I don’t want to live this way- trapped somehow in the past with my mistakes and the mistakes of others.  So I come to the foot of the cross and ask you to forgive me, and I forgive others. Help me to not live today in the hurts of yesterday. Help me to let go and trust you. My fears are: are you really able to care for me? Can I trust you with my life? Trust is hard for me- but YOU are trustworthy.

“I will do everything you say,” these are Ruth’s words to her mother-in-law. Dear God, these are my words to you today. Only with your help can I do this. I will do everything you say. I love you.

Strict training | Kim Chipman

S~ Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 1 Corinthians 9:25 (NIV)

O~ 2 Timothy 1:7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.

Proverbs 25:28 Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control.

Titus 2:11-12 For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,

Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

A~ Strict training. Self discipline. I have not been displaying either in my life lately. I am reminded that I absolutely have choices and responsibilities in cultivating it, but the most important thing to do is cultivate my relationship with YOU. When I am tuned into the Spirit and choosing it over my fleshy desires for pleasure or comfort then self discipline is fruit from You. I don’t have to muster it up, pull up my boot straps, grit my teeth or feel deprived and defeated. Your Spirit and grace to the heavy lifting for me when I choose You. The most important strict training for me is to remain in intimate relationship with You.

P~ Thank You for Your patience with me. Thank You for providing for my needs. Thank You for being powerful because I feel weak. I love You!

Run with purpose | guest post

S~ So I run with purpose in every step.  ~ 1 Corinthians 9:26a

O~ Paul, one of the first church planters, was writing about a race that everyone is in.  He tells us to run in the race to win.  To be a part of the race, to really participate.  At the end of the race, there is a prize.  It’s an eternal prize!  So Paul instructs that every step of the race as a purpose.  Participate in every step of the race.

A~ That race is life.  Whether we follow Christ or not, we are all running in the race.  Our prize is eternal, it’s heaven – continual awesomeness with God!

Make the race count!  Participate, be active in your life.  And make every step, every moment count.  Purpose your steps to an eternal prize.  That client meeting tomorrow morning is a step to eternity.  The way you spend your evening time is a step in the race.  The thoughts running through your head point in the direction that you are running the race.  It all matters!

P~ Father, please make my paths straight and help me to know I’m on the right one!  I want my race to count for eternity!  I love You!  In Jesus’ Name I pray!  Amen!
