Just like me | Kelley Deases
S~ “…you thought I was altogether like you.” Psalm 50:21a (NIV)
O~ Just because God created us in His image does not mean we are the same. We, as mere humans, bear some small resemblance to Our Heavenly Father — we long for community (as He functions as a Trinity); we have the capacity to love, to show compassion, and to experience sorrow; and we are given some measure of dominion over our earthly boundaries. But our similarity to God does not therefore mean He is like us.
A~ Do I tend to think sometimes that God is just like me….only bigger? You would think so by my attitudes and actions. I can get lax about spending time studying His Word and seeking His direction through prayer, as if it doesn’t really make a difference what God thinks on a matter I am contending with. I pass up on opportunities to be a bold witness, as though God is not Holy and Just, and there is no Heaven and Hell. I easily get preoccupied with my agenda for the day, and for my life, completely ignoring His plans for me to accomplish His perfect will.
P~ Father, Forgive me for my foolish notion that You are just like me — moody, lazy, easily swayed, quick to anger and slow to extend myself for the good of another. You are The Holy One, and the day is coming when the whole world will know and confess that who You are is vastly different and above who we are.
God is faithful! | guest post
S~ God, who has called you into fellowship with His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful. 1 Corinthians 1:9 (NIV)
O~ God is faithful. Here, in print, God is revealing a character about Himself. Faithful means loyal, constant, staunch, steadfast, firm in adherence to whatever one owes allegiance. Faithful implies UNSWERVING adherence to a person or thing or to the oath or promise.
A~ I wrote a letter to God, my Father this morning. It was reflecting on the past year. May 2016 to today. The challenges faced in the last year have been some of the toughest yet – some are consequences of my decisions, some aren’t. Regardless, the reason of the tough year, it’s still been like waves crashing over the boat, and me, wondering if the boat will sink.
I haven’t been faithful to God this last year as each new challenge has come up. I’ve turned to my control, my problem solving ability, my actions to figure out these challenges. I should have gotten on my face and cried out to the Lord for help. God is faithful! He can’t change – so He will ALWAYS be faithful.
He has been unswervingly adherent to me through this last year. In my brain, I know that. But it’s deeper now. God is faithful. I can build my life on that. He is loyal, constant, steadfast, firm in adherence. God is NEVER going away in my life – no matter what I think, do, or don’t do.
P~ Father, You call me deeper still. This last year You have shown Yourself faithful, thank You!
God Will Do This!! | Joni Tyner
S~ “God will do this, He is faithful to do what He says, and He has invited you into partnership with His son Jesus Christ our Lord.” 1 Corinthians 1:9 (NLT)
O~ God’s character is this: He is always, always trustworthy, He will do what He says. When it comes down to the core of everything, we really need to believe God is everything He says He is.
A~ This comforts me. I have seen so many scriptures in the Bible, both the Old and New Testament, that shows God is faithful to His people. I’ve read many of the journal entries this past month , God is faithful to His people. He will make all of life’s disappointments right. Someday, every tear will be dried, everyone who struggles with illness, physical limitations, disabilities will be made perfect. I see that life is hard and quite honestly I sometimes struggle with why some prayers get answered and others seem to bounce back, unanswered. I don’t always understand why bad things happen, why good people suffer. It’s just hard. Still,… I do believe and trust God’s character—that He is good, and He loves me. He is faithful to do what He says.
P~ Thank you for your Word. I really needed this scripture today as I was struggling with some unbelief. Lord help me overcome doubt in my life and completely trust You for everything decision. You are enough.
