“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. Do Something Different | Kelley Deases
S~ David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the Lord his God. 1 Samuel 30:6 (NIV)
O~ Faced with identical hardship — coming back from battle to find their wives and children gone and their homes burned to the ground — the reaction of David was different than that of the other men. While the others were plotting revenge on the enemies who had done this, David cried out to the Lord in his grief, as he so often did in the recorded Psalms, and was able to receive comfort, strength, and clear guidance from His Father.
A~ This week I received the news I was not chosen for the job for which I had competed. And in that moment of disappointment and feeling rejected and swirling emotions, I had the sense I was no different than an unbeliever. I had previously vowed to accept whatever answer I got with complete grace and in the confidence of knowing God was in control of the outcome. But yet it hurt. I had “put myself out there” in presenting my ideas and trying to prove my value to the staff of this church. And they passed me over in favor of another person.
Well, it took some crying out to the Lord and some godly counsel and a little time, but now I do know (yet again) that I can trust God with a “not now; not this,” knowing that He has not forsaken me and will direct me to His best for me in His perfect timing.
P~ Father, Thank you that I don’t have to feel different, act different, or be different than anyone else faced with similar circumstances. But I can cry out to You and freely receive Your comfort and Your strength, which ultimately makes all the difference!
Love and Peace | Kim Chipman
S~ Dear brothers and sisters, I close my letter with these last words: Be joyful. Grow to maturity. Encourage each other. Live in harmony and peace. Then the God of love and peace will be with you. 2 Corinthians 13:11 (NLT)
O~ Paul is writing to the Corinthians and wraps up his letter with these words.
A~ Your love and peace with me…this is what I crave ~ so how?
* Be joyful ~ I struggle with this…I’m not sure why. I’m sure I’m believing a lie somewhere that is holding me back from the fullness of Your Spirit because joy IS a fruit of the Spirit! You came to give me life to the full (John 10:10)! This includes joy!
* Grow to maturity ~ Once I believed in You my soul was saved ~ can’t earn that and don’t need to. Growing to maturity is separate and does require some effort and choices on my part. I need to continually choose to spend time in Your Word and follow where You lead to grow in maturity.
* Encourage each other ~ we’re in this thing together as believers! I have been encouraged by some wonderful people and need to remember to be encouraging to others as well.
* Live in harmony and peace~ This is a choice. I cannot choose for anyone else, but I can make the choice to forgive and be a maker and keeper of peace…focus on the positive, think the best, show grace…I can choose this, I can choose peace.
P~ Father, I crave Your peace ~ the peace that passes all understanding. Help me to choose to be joyful, to grow, and to live in harmony with others so I have it. This sounds easy right now while I sit here quietly with You but I’m going to get up and do life soon and it will get harder. I love You.
