Consumed with Peace | Tara Wiley

S~ When Gideon realized that it was the angel of the Lord, he exclaimed, “Alas, sovereign Lord! I have seen the angel of the Lord face to face!” But the Lord said to him, “Peace! Do not be afraid. You are not going to die.” So Gideon built an altar to the Lord there and called it The Lord Is Peace. Judges 6:22-24 (NIV)

O~ Gideon had just been presented with life changing news. The task before him was so huge, so outside of the realm of possibility. All he could see was his own weakness and the weakness of his family. Little did he know he was literally sitting with Jesus – until miraculous fire consumed his sacrifice.

Can you imagine the startling realization? He’d been flippantly arguing with the God of the universe! Dread rolled over him for all new reasons now. Yet the Lord saw his heart, just as He had from the beginning. He saw Gideon’s potential; He saw Gideon’s awe and worship. He saw Gideon’s offering. He consumed the offering with fire, then consumed Gideon with peace.

A~ When I am burdened with my own inabilities in the face of impossible callings, I can trust what God sees instead of how I feel. I can come to Him, worship Him, and be consumed by His peace. How often have I experienced this very thing? Yet I continue to doubt and flounder at each new task.

P~ Lord, I believe! Help me overcome my unbelief. You were so patient with Gideon, proving Yourself over and again. Help me remember the many times in my life where You proved Yourself faithful to equip me for the task in front of me. Help me NOT to be overwhelmed by the task but to know that I can trust You to consume me with Your peace as I yield to and worship You.

The Olive Tree | guest post

S~ But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God’s unfailing love for ever and ever. Psalm 52:8 (NIV)

O~ I found this on a Spanish cooking website about the factors that make the best olive oil: “Olive trees need lots of room to grow. The best olives for oil come from low growing trees, which need a lot of room and sun so that the fruit can mature correctly…horse manure is used as fertilizer, water is carried out sparingly because the tree gets its moisture and nutrients from the soil.”

A~ This cooking website is not gospel, but I sense the Holy Spirit at work here. The trees need room to grow, the fruit has a way to mature correctly, a bunch of poo has to go on the tree for the fruit to be great, and it’s lifesource comes from what the roots are connected to.

Can I get an amen?

My thoughts the last week or so have been defeating. I’m positive that God is disappointed with me in a few areas of my life because I’m failing and not hitting my goals.

But maybe I am like an olive tree and I need lots and lots of room to grow? And part of the verse connects flourishing in the house of God to trusting in His unfailing love no matter what.

P~ Your Word is replacing my thoughts! Thank you for it!
