“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. In Temptation, Trust and Obey | Kim Chipman
S~ So now I declare that I will no longer drive out the people living in your land. They will be thorns in your sides, and their gods will be a constant temptation to you. Judges 2:3 (NLT)
O~ Joshua had warned the Israelites as they were taking possession of the Promised Land to drive out all the current inhabitants, to completely destroy their idols, and to serve God alone. As the tribes took over their land they did not do this. The Lord had promised them victory but they did not obey Him. The consequence is that now He will not drive them out, but will leave them there to constantly tempt the Israelites.
A~ Disobedience. I see that You just want my heart, Lord. Completely. Fully devoted. Undivided. You ALONE are God and want that role in my life. No idols to slowly, cunningly, insidiously, sneakily pull me away from You. They are so appealing…get your needs met over here…come on, this is all you’ve dreamed of…you deserve it…come here…no, over here!…bring your empty cup and allow me to fill it for you, it will feel great….no hard work here, no self-denial here, no delayed gratification here…oh, wait, that wasn’t quite enough, come back for more!…still an empty hole?…try this!…no, this!…oh, this MUST be what I’m looking for…it’s like a drug, the idols are, reeling us in….too much is never enough…it will never fill the empty place that only You are made to fill. Never. Ever.
And just like an Israelite, you give ME gazillions of chances to choose You. So…do I choose You? Am I intentional? I WILL be tempted, but You promise to give me a way out (1 Cor 10:13). You also tell me I can’t (as in CAN NOT) drink from Your cup and eat at Your table and the devil’s, too. (1 Cor 10:21). Just as for the Israelites You allow the temptation, you give me a choice. Do I choose Spirit or flesh? Who do I trust? Do I trust You and Your promises? Whose table will I choose to eat at today…right now…in this moment, with my next choice?
P~ Lord, help me to choose well ~ to choose life ~ to choose trust ~ to choose Spirit over flesh, obedience over compromise, trust over selfish pride. I love you~
Remember Him! | guest post
S~ After that generation died, another generation grew up who did not acknowledge the Lord or remember the mighty things He had done for Israel. Judges 2:10 (NLT)
O~ What? It’s happening again? The Israelites leave Egypt, celebrate You, but then complain and whine about food and wanting to go back to Egypt. Then because of their hearts, they wander for 40 years in the wilderness. Their kids are ON FIRE for You; kick butt and take names as they enter the promised land. And then when that generation dies, this is what is said about their kids? Their kids don’t acknowledge You or remember what You had done!
A~ What is going on? Moses told the people to talk to their kids about the Lord. Did they? Did the whole sacrifice/going to the temple thing become a daily task? Why did that generation not acknowledge You Lord? Why didn’t they remember You? I’m on fire God! I DO NOT want this to be said about my children! I want my highest level of faith to be my kids’ footstep of their faith! How does that happen because I’m really discouraged after reading this.
P~ Lord, thank You for this example of how quickly our hearts can turn away from You. Please Lord, go ahead of my kids, fight for their hearts always! Let them acknowledge You and NEVER forget You! Use me as an instrument to do that! I LOVE YOU and I trust that You will do this! I pray in Jesus’ Name! Amen!
