Who Will I Serve? | Kim Chipman

S~ So fear the Lord and serve him wholeheartedly. Put away forever the idols your ancestors worshiped when they lived beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord alone. Joshua 24:14 (NLT)

O~ Joshua is going to die soon. He called all the people together to give his final instructions and reminders. He reminded them of all the Lord had brought them through and asked of them and promised to them. Primarily, God wants them to obey Him and serve Him alone and wholeheartedly.

A~ Joshua was asking the people to take a stand – who will they serve? Who will I serve? Just choose – not lukewarm, halfheartedly – take a stand. Put away forever the idols…serve the Lord alone. Choose this day whom You will serve. Well, Kim? What will it be? Each day, each moment I have this choice.

P~ Thank You for Your Word. Thank You for loving me so much. Thank You for the opportunities to serve You and being patient with me when I blow it. I love you.

To Him be the Glory | guest post

S~ I put no trust in my bow,  my sword does not bring me victory; but you give us victory over our enemies, you put our adversaries to shame. In God we make our boast all day long, and we will praise your name forever. Psalm 44:6-8 (NIV)

O~ This psalm was written by the sons of Korah. They were a people known to be great warriors as well as put in charge of music and songs during David’s times. Here they explain that they do not trust in their tools (weapons) or what they could do with them. Instead they trusted in God’s ability to work through them and give them victory. It is God who they gave glory for what was accomplished.

A~ This jumped out at me because it is so contrary to what the world teaches us about success. The world tells us that we have to make a name for ourselves. We need to get the best tools to help us achieve our goals. When we have the best and we put it in the hands of the best, then we have a plan for success that we can boast in.  How grateful I am that isn’t true.  How happy I am that I don’t have to be the smartest or most gifted. How grateful I am that I don’t have to have the most expensive, latest technologies. To be successful by God’s terms I don’t have to be the best or own the best, because I already Know the one who IS the best. In Him, I can put my trust. In Him, I can boast. Even when it seems like I am losing the battle, I know who will bring me victory.  It is His name I will praise as I face each battle this life may bring.

P~ Lord thank you for this day! Thank you for fighting for me. Thank you that you won the biggest battle for me…the fight for my eternity. Thank you that you love me always and that when I turn all things over to you and trust in your will to accomplish them, you will have victory in my life. Help me not to trust in my own thoughts or abilities but to seek your will in all I do.  I give you praise for who you are and for all that you have done and will do in my life to accomplish your will. In Jesus’ precious name. Amen.
