April 21, 2018 Joshua 19,20; Romans 12:9-21

“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. Click HERE to go directly to the daily reading if you wish.

S~ Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Romans 12:11 (NIV)

O~ I think I have nearly every verse in this entire chapter of Romans either underlined, highlighted, starred, or circled in my well-worn study Bible. Paul’s encouragement to the early church about what it means to live the Christian life still speaks today.

A~ I think I chose this verse specifically for the word “zeal,” as this was a common theme of our conversation at this week’s Bible study. A couple of us proposed we add a serving component to our group. We don’t want to get too complacent or cloistered in our little circles of mostly like-minded believers, but get out there and share God’s love with a hurting world. I’m ashamed to admit I have not been doing much of that at all lately. But we had a productive conversation about the benefits of serving — for ourselves, as a group, and to be an example to our children (besides the fact that God requires it!). We also came up with many needs and opportunities just off the top of our heads. I’m confident that list will grow as we mobilize and get started.

P~ Father, I confess my own selfishness, for being more concerned with my comfort and my family than a hurting world outside my door. Inspire our thoughts as we respond to Your call to “Go.” Guide our service, and the heart behind it, that it might bring You glory and have eternal impact.
