Agree with God….even when I disagree with my husband | Kelley Deases
S~ Then Joshua said to Achan, “My son, give glory to the Lord, the God of Israel, and give him the praise. Tell me what you have done, do not hide it from me.” Joshua 7:19 (NIV)
O~ In the margin of my study Bible, it reads: “How can confessing sin give glory and praise to God? By confessing sin, the sinner agrees with God that sin is unacceptable. Public confession of that truth glorifies God by acknowledging God to be consistently true and sin to be consistently false.”
A~ I knew before I sat at the Lord’s feet this morning that He wouldn’t let me get away with it. If I’m being honest. My unconfessed sin has been plaguing me for a day-and-a-half. My husband acted in a way that deeply hurt and offended me, and I have been stewing over my pain since it happened. It is so insidious that it’s bleeding into my other relationships and stealing my joy in other areas. But I know that regardless of what he did, regardless of whether he even gets it, regardless of whether he acknowledges he hurt me and apologizes, I now have my own sin to contend with in this unforgiveness. I need to release him and thereby release myself from the bondage of keeping this grudge alive , either by bringing it up or shutting down altogether because of it.
P~ Father, I cannot do this alone. The strong pull is to nurse my wounds and try to hurt back like I hurt. But Your ways are higher and better (though so much harder!) and bring healing and restoration to my heart and to the relationship. By the power of Your Spirit, help me forgive and let this go.

S~ “I wanted them so much that I took them.” ~ Achan in Joshua 7:21 (NLT)
O~ Achan is an Israelite warrior from the tribe of Judah. The Israelites had just taken the city of Jericho by walking around the town and shouting! (WHAT??? Awesome story about this in Joshua 6)
God was very specific about what to do with the treasures taken from the fall of Jericho, they were to go to the treasury.
Achan stole some of the treasures and because of that, the Israelites were defeated in the next battle. God pointed out who stole the treasures and Achan admitted to it, saying he, “wanted them so much.” The story goes on and Achan and his whole family were killed because of his sin and disobedience.
A~ As I peel back layers of this story, I’m trying to understand why Achan did this. He had everything he needed. But stealing the treasures revealed something more in his heart. Achan wasn’t satisfied. Proverbs 27:20 says human desire is never satisfied.
Because of Achan’s worldly desires, it led him and his family down a path of death. Achan and his family physically DIED because of his sin and disobedience. ** Side note here: sin doesn’t just affect the person who commits it, it affects everyone close to the person who commits sin! **
I wonder if my heart shouts what Achan said, “I wanted them so much that I took them.” Of course it does! Achan’s heart of selfishness mirrors my own way too often. When I choose me, I will eventually get to a place of death; death of progress, death of relationship, death of peace.
For example; I was working on my computer and my daughter sat down by me eating her lunch. She just wanted to be by her mama. Unfortunately, she was eating chips and her crunching was driving me insane. Instead of just waiting and being patient, I asked her to go eat somewhere else. She gave me a look and left. Death of a moment that we could have had 😦
P~ Thank You for Achan’s example of what can happen when a heart is turned from You. Thank You for making it clear that my heart so often mirrors Achan’s. I am so sorry! I don’t want to be selfish, but I do see me so much like that. Burn away that selfish pride and worldly desires of my heart. Fill me with You, Jesus! In Your Name I pray! Amen!
Humbly Dependent | Kim Chipman
S~ The humble will see their God at work and be glad. Let all who seek God’s help be encouraged. Psalm 69:32 (NLT)
O~ David is crying out to God for Him to rescue him from people who hate him, insult him, humiliate him, scoff at him, and make him feel shame, scorn, and disgrace.
A~ I can relate to how David feels. Sometimes it seems that following hard after You brings mocking and rejection from others. He prayed for You to rescue him, remembering that You are trustworthy, You hear his cries, and if he remains humble he will see You working. Pride would try to take over and control the situation independent of You. your desire is for me to remain humbly dependent on Your power and continually seeking You and Your help. In the world it seems strong to be independent and in control. In You when I am weak and dependent then I am strong.
P~ Lord, help me to remain encouraged and glad in You! Even when I feel alone in pursuing You. I love You.
