A New Song | Kelley Deases

S~ He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Psalm 40:3 (NIV)

O~ David is speaking about how God came into his life and transformed him. The Lord gave him new songs which sprang from his pen and his mouth because his outlook was shaped by his faith.

A~ Having been raised in church, I was always familiar with hymns, praise songs and campfire tunes from many a summer camp and women’s retreat. That was the music of my church time. In the rest of my life, I was just as happy to listen to pop, rock, country and alternative music. That is, until my life hit a patch so raw and painful that most music lyrics seemed to pour salt in my open wounds. However, words of praise to God were not only bearable, but acted as a balm to my soul. For a long season, I could not listen to secular music, which always seemed to focus on being in love with someone new or breaking up with someone flawed. Just too painful after my husband had walked out on me. So I exclusively turned to Christian music, which centered on His great and perfect love for me. I am back to being able to listen to all sorts of music now, and can appreciate how God has gifted many people through many artistic expressions, but I still gravitate toward immersing myself in these “new songs,” which somehow can connect my soul with His.

P~ Thank You, Jesus, for giving me a new song. A song which resonates with Your unfailing love.

May All Who Search for You be Filled with Joy & Gladness | Kimi Miller

S~ May all who search for you be filled with joy and gladness in you. May those who love your salvation repeatedly shout, “The LORD is great!” Psalm 40:16 (NLT)

O~ I love the psalms – the raw realness of David’s heart. He pours everything out before You. Here, he writes, “May all who search for you be filled with joy and gladness.”

My word for 2018 is “seek.” If I’m really honest, this year hasn’t started off with joy and gladness. It came with unexpected turns and heartache. I know You are in it – I feel You and can sense You working – I can even see You working things out for my good and for those around me. But the battlefield of the mind is treacherous.

Lies, like landmines, wait – hidden beneath the surface – anticipating the explosion that occurs when I step into them. It’s quite alarming – the damage one of these lies can do. The shrapnel ripping through hearts and scarring minds – my own receiving the worst of the blow. It’s all a trap set by the enemy of long ago; the one seeking to steal, kill and destroy.

But Jesus, my Jesus, came – and still comes – to my rescue. Every time. If I just reach out and take His hand; He knows the way – He IS the way, the truth and the life!

Instead of searching for truth, I have been searching for distraction…and destruction found me. Distraction has been a faithful companion; one that robs me of the moment by disguising itself as busyness. Working alongside me for as long as I can remember. Distraction is no friend. But Jesus is.

Jesus is security. Jesus is safety. Jesus is freedom, acceptance, love, life. Jesus is joy and gladness.

A/P~ Help me to keep pressing in, Lord. I know that You use everything and I trust all things pass through Your hands. Take away my fear Lord. Restore to me the joy and gladness of Your salvation. I love You.
