“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. Blessed and Thankful | Kim Chipman

S~ Yet the Lord says, “During the forty years that I led you through the wilderness, your clothes did not wear out, nor did the sandals on your feet. You ate no bread and drank no wine or other fermented drink. I did this so that you might know that I am the Lord your God.” Deuteronomy 29:5-6 (NIV)

O~ It is so easy to see the struggles and completely miss all the good. Sometimes life just feels like one crisis after another, but when I truly take a step back and see all there is to be grateful for…it’s humbling. The Israelites grumbled and complained the entire time they were in the wilderness in spite of Your care for them and all the miracles they witnessed. I’m no different than they are.

A~ There is SO much for me to be thankful for. SO much. I’m sure I’d have greater joy if I kept my focus on all of those things! It’s easy to complain when my car needs repair or my washer breaks or my kids are sick. I can also take a look around at all the times I’ve driven around safely, things just work in my house, and we have healthy days. If I take a minute and think of all the things that could go wrong that aren’t I could park my heart in a grateful place.

I also notice that You care for us in this way “so you might know that I am the Lord your God”. Not so I can feel good about myself or my abilities or how hard I work. But so I know that You are my God. My God who cares for me and provides for me. Everything is Yours.

P~ Thank You for my life. It’s a good life. Thank You for revealing Yourself to me by providing for my needs. Help me to keep my heart and thoughts focused on thankfulness. I love You!

S~ While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.  Romans 5:8 (NLT)

O~ Romans was written by Paul.   The observation is pretty much clearly stated,  Jesus died for us before we even knew or wanted Him. It was all Him, we had nothing to do with the equation.

A~ I’ve known this verse  for a long time, I’m pretty sure I memorized it when I was helping my kids with their AWANAs verses about 20 years ago.  It still stops me in my tracks.  It reminds me of just how much God loves me.  My salvation is because He chose me and died for me, it is not because I’ve done good things and attended church.  My response to this scripture is gratitude and a heart that desires to obey his Word.  Again, I didn’t do anything to receive this gift, but I celebrate and strive to give God glory as a response to being saved.

P~ Dear Lord, I desire to live out my daily life as a response to this gift.  I fall so short and mess up so much, I’m sorry!!!  Please forgive my wishy-washy attitude and self-absorbed behavior that frequents my life.  I desire to be more like You and less like my old self.  I love You.
